Chapter 1: The Bible “Okay girls! Put your english books away, I have some news for you.” said Miss Travers. A wave of melancholy washed over her face.“Girls! Pay attention! I have some very sad news for you. Unfortunately, for work, I have to leave school.” said Miss Travers. Our class collectively gasped. “No! You are joking right?!” said one girl. “Please don’t leave!” “No way!” “You have got to be kidding me!” “Okay ! Okay! Yes I will have to go. But another problem is that we don’t have a reliever teacher, it would be great if one miraculously popped up from nowhere.” said Miss Travers. She sighed. Suddenly, we heard a glittery, twinkly sound. “What’s going on?!” we exclaimed. Just then, the Bible floated out of the shelf all the way to the front of the classroom! We gasped. The Bible opened up to the middle. Glitter floated out and a lady tumbled out! She wore a cream coloured dress that went down to her ankles, and a sash tied around her waist. She also wore a dark brown coat about the same length as her dress, with two small pockets. Finally, she had dark brown leather high heel boots. 1
2 “Well,” she said, “your wish has come true.” Miss Travers stared. We stared. Our class stared. “Don’t gape at me! I will run the class now.” the mystery lady said. “Umm.. well... okay...” Miss Travers trailed. The she left the room. But Miss Travers went outside and decided to watch this lady “teach” from the window. “Alright girls! Get out a book and read while I unpack my things.” said said the lady. But no one could do anything but watch the new teacher. Mesmerised, we observed the mystery lady pull out her computer, a music box then a bag which read Pillows, another bag of small balls and even an oven, out of her coat pockets! “How could that stuff fit in there!” someone called out. Then everyone started chatting and whispering about what just happened. I have a feeling that this teacher has lots of surprises in store for us, I thought. “Quiet please,” said the lady, “let me introduce myself. My name is Gloria Rainer, but you can call me Miss Rainer.” said Miss Rainer briefly. “Let’s do the roll.” she said. Miss Rainer stepped up to the front row. “Lilly, Felicity H, Catherine S, Elsie, Sethu, Manon. Row 2: Alphonsa, Juan Catherine T, Veronica, Clara, Marijana (pronounced Marianna), Ayla and Felicity A. Row 3: Gabi C, Natalie, Emma, Grace, Clare O, Cassandra, Helen and Catherine-Siena. Row 4: Isla, Blake, Gabi K, Elie, Clare P, Giulia (pronounced Julia), Celeste and Evangeline.” Miss Rainer finally ended. “But how?” said a girl. “How is it possible?” said another. “I’d like you to know that I never elaborate on anything,” said Miss Rainer, not really answering our questions.
