POSITIONING

Everyone sells the fix, but almost no one proves it. We looked at 25+ noise control firms across the country and here at home. They fall into four camps. Each one says something true. None of them says the whole thing. THE CATALOGS What they say: Hundreds of products. Buy direct and save. Best price for the performance. Install it yourself. The catch: Quotes come off room dimensions typed into a web form. Nobody ever measures the actual problem. THE REPS & SHOWROOMS What they say: Curated manufacturer lines. Beautiful spaces. Proprietary tech that makes any room sound perfect. The catch: They sell what's in the line. The product leads, and the problem has to fit around it. THE CONSULTANTS What they say: Independent and unbiased. Not a product vendor. Assessment, design and measurement. The catch: You get a report. Finding someone to build it, and owning whether it works, is on you. THE ENGINEERING GIANTS What they say: Integrated, multidisciplinary, global. Acoustics alongside every other building system. The catch: Acoustics is one line item. Built for architects on big projects, not a plant manager with a noise problem today. WHAT EVERYONE SAYS "Leading." "Solutions." "Every space." "The best." Swap the logos and most of these homepages still read the same. WHAT NO ONE SAYS "We measured it. We built it. Then we came back and proved it worked." Not one firm in the set claims the full loop THE OPPORTUNITY The market is split between companies that sell you panels and companies that sell you a report. Memtech Acoustics measures the problem, engineers and installs the fix, and comes back to prove it worked. MARKET OVERVIEW

DIFFERENTIATORS We measure before we treat. Data-driven acoustical assessment, not a guess off photos or a floor plan. One team, start to finish. Diagnosis through installation under one accountable roof. We treat every job site like it's our own. We leave your space as clean as we found it, so you won't need to call in a cleanup crew of your own We verify after we're done. We return post-install to confirm the fix actually worked, where most competitors stop at handoff. A partner, not a one-time vendor. Ongoing check-ins and willingness to redesign, the relationship doesn't end after installation. Acoustics is the whole business, not a service line. Specialist focus with full-service delivery, unlike the big multidisciplinary firms where acoustics is secondary.

POSITIONING OPPORTUNITIES The Most Trusted Acoustics Expert in Metro Detroit Every client interview reached for "consultant" or "partner" language unprompted: the opportunity is to turn that earned trust into the region's clear reputation, not just individual client goodwill. It is important to note that all three of your competitors use the term “consultant” in their messaging, so I’d recommend we use different language when it comes to your messaging. We Don't Just Diagnose, We Solve the Problem Full-service delivery from first assessment through installation and final verification, where most competitors stop at testing or handoff. Solutions Backed by Data A measured, defensible answer behind every recommendation: no competitor in the region is currently positioned around measuring before and verifying after. A Partner People Love Working With Responsiveness, transparency, and a personal touch already earn client trust one relationship at a time: the opportunity is to carry that same warmth into partnerships and brand-level messaging, not just individual service.

Memtech Acoustics is metro Detroit's acoustic leader; the industry expert engineering holistic, verified noise solutions for organizations whose noise problems are putting their work, customers, compliance, or community at risk.POSITIONING STATEMENT

BRAND

MENTOR BRANDS Gary McCreadie - The HVAC Guy Gary is a working contractor who built an industry-wide reputation and podcast off of one thing: being the person other people in the trade. This is a good model for what "Leading Experts" can look like at Memtech's scale. The expertise is earned in the field and then simply narrated, not manufactured for marketing. Host it as the field expert, not a marketing team Adopt a simple mission tagline: Measure. Teach. Prove. Interviews other industry pros, not just customers Leads with a clear "why this show exists" and the value of it Uses his experience as a path to industry-leader visibility Publish consistently to build long-term search authority Turn undocumented team stories into episode content Leads with education over sales in all content Keep one consistent voice across site, social, and content Turn field expertise into a personality people follow, not just a service they buy Expand into brand extensions (resources, tools, community) once authority is established

MENTOR BRANDS BMW Lead marketing with the engineering, not the finish. BMW's story is precision and performance first; polish is a byproduct. Memtech's version is leading with the measurement and verification process instead of the panels themselves. Back every claim with a spec. "Ultimate Driving Machine" works because it's provable, not just felt. Memtech's equivalent is the STC/NRC numbers and before-after data that already exist but aren't front and center. Confident, restrained language over hype. BMW doesn't oversell, it states a claim and lets performance carry it, matching the "quietly confident, never a bullhorn" voice already defined for Memtech. Premium positioning through substance, not price signaling. BMW earns "premium" from what's under the hood, not from luxury cues, which is the same premium-not-price-shopped lane Memtech's persona work already landed on. A visual identity that reads engineered, not decorated. Clean, technical, precise design language, worth carrying into how case studies, reports, and collateral are laid out, not just the logo.

A KNOWLEDGEABLE GUIDE The expert who's walked this exact path before and shows the client the way through. LEADING EXPERTS Expertise proven by results and 25 year history. PARTNER, NOT TRANSACTION In it with you during and long after install. OPTIMISM Every noise problem has a solution and we'll find it. TEAM ENERGY One team, working together ATTENTIVE Nothing falls through the cracks, from the first call to the last question. IDEAL CONSUMERS

DESIGN & BUILD PARTNERS Architects, general contractors, and interior designers who shape a space before acoustics is ever considered. The goal is to become their go-to acoustics partner, brought in at the blueprint stage instead of called in after a client complains. ARCHITECTURE FIRMS COMMERCIAL GENERAL CONTRACTORS INTERIOR DESIGN FIRMS COMMERCIAL BUILD-OUT/RENOVATION FIRMS. FRUSTRATIONS Post-handoff client complaints such as echo, noise bleed, unusable space which force costly retrofits. The moment they realize acoustics should've been in the blueprint from the start. THEIR CLIENT’S IMPACT Acoustic failures reflect on them and a bad outcome can cost future referrals. PAIN POINTS Retrofits are costly, disruptive, and eat into already-tight margins. Acoustics isn't their expertise, and managing a specialist mid- or post- construction adds friction to a project they're trying to close out. MOTIVATIONS Deliver complaint-free projects. Look comprehensive and ahead of the curve to their own clients. Avoid rework and change orders that reflect poorly on their firm. LOOKING FOR IN A PARTNER Early involvement, blueprint stage. A collaborator who fits their process and timeline without adding friction, and who makes them look good in front of their own client. TRUST BUILDERS A track record with other architects, contractors, and designers. Proof that early acoustic planning protects budget and timeline instead of complicating them. Case studies of successful early-stage integration. THE VALUE THEY NEED TO BE SOLD They're paying, in time and collaboration, for zero-complaint handoffs and a reputation as thorough, forward-thinking builders, the kind of reputation that drives repeat business and referrals.

COMPLIANCE- AND DATA-DRIVEN INDUSTRIAL BUYERS Plant ops, manufacturing, and industrial firms who need a defensible, quantified noise number for a regulator, OSHA standard, customer spec, or their own leadership. FOUNDRIES/INDUSTRIAL EQUIPMENT SUPPLIERS MANUFACTURING PLANTS SECURITY/INDUSTRIAL FIRMS FRUSTRATIONS Other providers can't produce credible, measurable data. Big-ticket decisions ($100K+) stall without hard numbers to justify them. THEIR TEAM/CLIENT’S IMPACT Employees' hearing/health is on the line, a liability issue and a comfort one. A downstream customer or regulator may also require a specific spec, adding a second compliance thread.PAIN POINTS Vendors who talk noise reduction without proof or a solution, just adat. Deadlines tied to someone else's timeline (a customer's compliance date, a permit review, an OSHA audit). MOTIVATIONS Protect workers from harm and the company from liability. Protect the customer relationship, contract, or permit riding on it. LOOKING FOR IN A PARTNER Real, defensible data, fast. Full loop from testing to installation so they're not coordinating multiple vendors under deadline pressure. TRUST BUILDERS The acoustical study/report is the deliverable that unlocks their decision, not just a nice-to-have. Track record of producing real numbers where competitors couldn't. THE VALUE THEY NEED TO BE SOLD They're paying for a rigorous, quantified report they can defend to OSHA, a regulator, a customer, or their own leadership, that proof is what makes the investment justifiable.

EXPERIENCE GUARDIANS Owners/operators responsible for someone else's experience of a space including patients, congregants, members, guests, staff. The noise problem isn't theirs to feel, it's theirs to fix on someone else's behalf. THERAPY/HEALTHCARE CLINICS CHURCHES/COMMUNITY SPACES COWORKING SPACES RESTAURANTS HOTELS OFFICES WITH CLIENT- OR PUBLIC-FACING SPACE. FRUSTRATIONS Noise undermines the core experience they're responsible for delivering, sometimes after they've already sunk major capital into the space itself. TEAM/CUSTOMER IMPACT Direct and immediate. Patient safety, a congregation's ability to hear and engage, staff/guest comfort. PAIN POINTS Urgency outweighs price-shopping. Several skipped competitive bids entirely because speed and trust mattered more. A bad outcome risks safety or reputation, not just money. MOTIVATIONS Fulfill a duty of care to patients, congregation, members, or guests. Mission-driven more than ROI-driven. LOOKING FOR IN A PARTNER A partner who understands this is a business issue. Bad acoustics keeps people from walking through the door, staying, or coming back. Responsiveness and a real relationship on top of that. TRUST BUILDERS Reputation and reviews. Speed to respond to an urgent, people- facing problem. A named person they connect with personally, not just a vendor relationship. THE VALUE THEY NEED TO BE SOLD They're paying to keep people walking through the door and coming back. Noise and disruption should never be a factor in that experience.

ICP Value Statement Design & Build Partners They're paying, in time and collaboration, for zero-complaint handoffs and a reputation as thorough, forward-thinking builders, the kind of reputation that drives repeat business and referrals. Compliance- and data-driven industrial buyers They're paying for a rigorous, quantified report they can defend to OSHA, a regulator, a customer, or their own leadership, that proof is what makes the investment justifiable. Experience Guardians They're paying to keep people walking through the door and coming back. Noise and disruption should never be a factor in that experience. Environmental/Infrastructure They're paying for defensible, unimpeachable data that holds up in a public hearing or legal dispute, protecting the project's approval and their own credibility. THE VALUE THAT NEEDS TO BE SOLD A key takeaway from the interviews & from the conversations is that prospects are shocked by the sticker price. They are unaware of the cost of doing acousitcal business because it’s not something they’ve ever done before or don’t do often.

Knowing who to walk away from is as strategic as knowing who to pursue. These are the engagement patterns that predict a stalled project, a strained relationship, or a compromised outcome, no matter how the deal looks on paper. Wants a predetermined answer, not an honest one Pressures Memtech to validate a fix they've already decided on, even when the data says otherwise. No single point of contact Multiple people give conflicting direction with nobody owning the decision. Disrespectful to the team Minimizes expertise, dictates scope and price, or treats staff as a pushover. Looking for a quick fix "I need this by tomorrow" should be turned away immediately, on principle, to protect quality and reputation. Resists the data before the fix. Wants to skip or argue down the paid assessment and just get a solution. The "pay you to tell me how much I need to pay you" objection. Internal misalignment. On-site staff undermine a project their own management already approved. DIYers They want you to tell them what’s wrong, then they will fix it. ANTI-IDEAL CLIENT

APPENDIX

COMMON THEMES Rigorous, data-first problem solving "We don't guess." A consistent emphasis on testing, baseline data, and validating results. We don’t do quick fixes. High-touch professionalism & care Language around "accountable," "thorough," and treating every client, regardless of project size, to the same quality experience. Holistic, full-service simplicity Pride in being a single, connected team that owns a problem end-to-end, versus a fragmented, hand-off-heavy process. WHERE THE BRAND BREAKS DOWN WITH PROSPECTS Four disconnects, echoed across multiple interviews: The "long-term partner" story goes untold Post-installation validation, check-ins, and a willingness to revisit a solution all happen, but none of it is currently part of the external brand story. Cost isn't addressed until late Described independently as the #1 reason deals stall. Prospects consistently aren't prepared for typical investment ranges going into a conversation. Technical language creates early friction Client acoustics literacy is roughly a coin flip. Messaging that assumes familiarity with the field loses less-informed prospects early. There's no acoustics engineer on staff Leadership's technical credentials are thin by field standards, and the one deep technical expert on the team isn't a long-term fixture. Some deals are already being lost outright to municipalities that require a credentialed PE or PhD on staff, and the gap creates real exposure on litigation-adjacent work if challenged by a more credentialed competitor. EMPLOYEE INTERVIEW SUMMARY How the Memtech team sees the brand today, where they think it's headed, and where the story breaks down for prospects.

EMPLOYEE INTERVIEW SUMMARYTHE CORE POSITIONING TENSION An aspiration the team has embraced, but hasn't fully earned yet Perceived by those who know Memtech Acoustics already: A materials supplier/distributor transactional, product-first company. Engaged after a client already knows what they want to order. Where leadership wants to go: A consultative acoustics partner engaged early to define the problem, propose a solution, and stay involved through validation and beyond. Takeaway: Every interview referenced this shift toward "consulting." Belief in the destination is strong and consistent, belief that the market already sees Memtech that way is not.

CLIENT INTERVIEW SUMMARY Five clients were asked about their experience with Memtech and why they would work with them again. How Clients Find Memtech Nearly every client found Memtech through an unprompted Google search and not referral. Several noted there simply aren't many firms doing this work, especially for smaller spaces. Website played an outsized role in the decision to make first contact: clients described it as an early trust signal ("could tell from the website it was going to be a good company"). Proximity/local presence came up repeatedly as a reason to reach out. What Clients Consistently Valued The on-site acoustical testing/data step was the single most-cited trust builder. Clients felt confident specifically because Memtech measured and documented the problem before proposing a fix, rather than just selling a product. Full-service delivery (test > plan > install) was seen as a differentiator vs. piecing together DIY products or multiple vendors. Responsiveness and communication speed were named as deciding factors as often as the technical work itself. Several clients specifically praised the same two team members by name across unrelated projects, reachable, detail-oriented, willing to go as deep as the client wants. How Clients Describe Memtech's Role Each client was asked directly whether Memtech is a vendor, contractor, consultant, or partner, responses clustered heavily above "contractor": "I would frame them more as a consultant... because of the level of guidance you get throughout the process." "Vendor AND a consultant, because they provide direction to fix problems rather than just telling you that you have one." "At first I would say consultant, a true consultancy. I'd never done anything like this before, and they consulted on the benefits, the cost, the timeline, and the outcome." What They’re Telling People Referral is already happening organically, one client had a visiting business owner ask for Memtech's contact info on the spot after noticing the finished work. Referral language is simple and consistent across unrelated clients: "they're helpful, they can fix the problem, here's their info." Trust currently attaches to specific individuals on the team by name as much as to the Memtech brand. A positioning opportunity to carry that same warmth/expertise into brand-level messaging. Cost is the biggest issue Clients consistently said the project cost more than they expected going in. Once they'd worked with Memtech, they understood the value they paid for, but justifying the cost upfront, before that value was proven, was difficult.
