W A L K I N T U I T · 2 0 2 5 A N N U A L R E P O R T 0 3 A L E T T E R F R O M L E A D E R S H I P We did not start Walk Intuit because it was easy. Dear Friends of Walk Intuit, We started it because we had looked around at the way our field holds people who are suffering, and something in us could not accept it. The isolation. The clinical distance. The way people in genuine pain are handed a number, a waiting list, a 50-minute hour, and sent back out into a world that did not stop moving while they were hurting. There has to be a better way to hold people in community while honoring the individual. That question is not a tagline for us. It is the reason this organization exists. 2025 was a year of firsts and hard choices. For the first time, we surpassed one million dollars in revenue. It's a milestone that represents not just financial growth, but the depth of need in our community. Every dollar of that revenue is a person who reached out for care. Every session is someone who chose, often against tremendous internal resistance, to begin healing. We relocated our entire equine herd to the OC Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, a move that brought logistical challenge, significant cost, and a visibility we had not anticipated. Families stopped on their way to the fair. Children pressed their faces against the fence. Volunteers showed up in numbers we had never seen. Something about horses in the heart of a community does something that a waiting room never can.
We also want to be transparent about a decision we made this year. For years, Walk Intuit operated under an unusual model: we paid our therapy trainees. This was an act of values. We believed that people doing this difficult, essential work deserved to be compensated for it. We still believe that. But it was also financially unsustainable, and sustainability is itself an act of care, for our clients, our staff, and the future of this organization. In late 2025, we transitioned to the standard model of unpaid traineeship. We did not make this change lightly. We made it because Walk Intuit needs to be here in ten years. Trauma does not live in cognition. It lives in the body, in the involuntary flinch and the held breath and the way a person takes up as little space as possible in a room. Horses notice. They respond to presence, not words. When a client stands beside one of our horses and feels the animal soften in response to their own nervous system settling, something shifts that no amount of talking could have reached. That is what we do. That is what your investment makes possible. We are not offering people a coping strategy. We are offering them a way back into their own bodies, their own lives, their own capacity for connection and wholeness. Our volunteers grew 50% in a single year. Universities began sending us their graduate students, not because we recruited them, but because our name had traveled. What we are building, together, is a place where no one has to walk alone. We hope you'll walk with us. Behind every statistic is a person: a parent navigating insurance barriers, a teenager who has tried medication and talk therapy and still feels stuck, an adult whose body carries what their mind cannot express. More therapy is not always the answer, not if the therapy doesn't reach the root. Traditional talk therapy has real limits: it relies on verbal processing, which trauma resists. It often leaves the body entirely out of the equation. Trauma lives in the body. And healing must meet it there. Walk Intuit exists in that gap, right here in Orange County, reaching people that conventional mental health systems most struggle to hold. Your gift keeps this care within reach for a neighbor who needs it.
