03 DEA SEGATTO Dea Segatto is a contemporary multidisciplinary artist from São Paulo, Brazil, based on the North Shore of O‘ahu, Hawai‘i. Her practice spans ceramics and mixed media, shaped by a continuing exploration of form, material, and place. After a decade living and working in New York City, she returned to Hawai‘i, where her studio practice continues to evolve.
ARTIST STATEMENT Dea’s practice can be framed around the tension between beauty and damage. Through ceramics and mixed media, natural forms become sites of transformation, accumulation, vulnerability, and human intervention. The work invites attention to what is fragile — and to what can be altered, preserved, remembered, or lost. Observation of ocean and tropical ecosystems informs a practice concerned with environmental loss and responsibility. Material experimentation is not presented as technique alone, but as a way of thinking through change, memory, and the traces left by intervention. 04
