This document is a rubric and checklist for Honors College students completing an Experiential Learning Opportunity (ELO). It is designed to guide students through the proposal and reflection process for earning ELO credit.
The proposal checklist requires students to plan at least 50 hours of experience for one ELO credit, set a reasonable timeline before graduation, and explain how the experience contributes to personal growth and at least one Honors College learning outcome.
The reflection checklist asks students to describe the experience including deviations or feedback, provide a time log showing hours per ELO unit, describe the learning outcome achieved, evaluate the impact on themselves and the community, and synthesize the experience for a resume or application.
The rubric defines three performance levels for five learning outcomes: Interpersonal and Intercultural Understanding, Creative and Complex Problem Solving (problem analysis and solution generation), Communication (discussion and dissemination of ideas). Each outcome has criteria for exceeds, meets, and does not meet expectations.
The rubric criteria include comparing values and perspectives, analyzing information from different perspectives, creating original solutions, collaborating effectively, and communicating ideas clearly using multiple styles. The document provides a structured framework for assessing student growth during the ELO.
