Official (Closed) – Non Sensitive 3 Annex 1 Teaching E-Portfolio Contents (maximum of 6 pages) About Myself I am an aspiring Early Childhood Educator who believes that every child is a unique, capable, and curious learner. Through my experience in Early Childhood studies, I have developed a growing interest in creating meaningful experiences that allow children to learn through play, exploration, and intentional experiences. My goal is to become an educator who creates a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment where every child feels valued, supported, and confident to learn. I am adaptable and recognise that children have different interests and needs, and am willing to adjust my approaches accordingly. I reflect on my experiences to identify how I can improve my teaching practice and enhance my knowledge. I value communication, active listening, and teamwork when working with children, peers, and future colleagues. My Philosophy of Early Childhood Education I believe that every child is a unique, capable, and curious learner who deserves to feel safe, respected, and valued. Children learn best through meaningful play, exploration, and intentional learning experiences that help extend their thinking, deepen their understanding, and support their holistic development. This aligns with the code of ethics, where I will value and respect each child and the knowledge and insights they bring. As an early childhood educator, I strive to create a warm, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where every child feels a sense of belonging and is confident to express themselves. I recognise that each child develops at their own pace, and I aim to provide learning experiences that build on their strengths and cater to their interests and individual needs. My goal is to inspire children to become confident, curious, resilient, and compassionate learners. I believe that learning should be enjoyable, hands-on, and purposeful. By encouraging children to ask questions, solve problems, and explore their surroundings, I hope to nurture their curiosity, creativity, confidence, and independence. Additionally, I value strong partnerships with families, believing that working together creates the best support system for each child’s growth and well- being. This aligns with the code of ethics, where I will collaborate with families to support their child’s learning and development, while embracing their diversity in culture and perspectives. Reflections Supported by Artefacts (Indicate in the right column the annex number where the artefact that supports each reflection appears. You may delete the questions in italics in your submission.) Reflective Practitioner
Official (Closed) – Non Sensitive 4 I chose a texture board as my artefact as it provides children with opportunities for hands-on exploration and sensory learning experiences. It is also suitable for a learning corner that highly encourages children to explore independently, helping them develop observation skills, boost curiosity, and build their vocabulary. This artefact reflects my growth as a reflective practitioner, as the texture board encouraged me to think intentionally about the resource's purpose and allowed me to reflect on the importance of designing meaningful, developmentally appropriate learning materials that cater to children’s interests and needs. I chose these artefacts that demonstrated my facilitations during a small group session of three students and a one-on-one numeracy session. These two distinct teaching experiences have significantly contributed to my growth as an aspiring early childhood educator. Facilitating a small-group activity allowed me to guide collaborative learning and encourage children’s participation through open- ended questions, while the one-on-one numeracy session enabled me to provide individualised support based on each child’s learning needs and interests. These two artefacts reflect my growth as a reflective practitioner, as these experiences allowed me to reflect on the effectiveness of my teaching and how my interactions with the children influenced their learning. They helped strengthen my understanding that every child learns differently and the importance of adapting my teaching strategies to meet the differing needs. Reflecting has enabled me to continuously improve my teaching practices and provide more meaningful learning experiences in the future. Relationship Builder I chose this artefact as it represents a collaborative learning experience that I planned and facilitated, where children worked together to decorate a recycling poster. I guided the children throughout the activity by encouraging them to share ideas, participate actively, and take turns to contribute to the recycling poster. This activity promoted teamwork while helping children understand the importance of recycling and caring for the environment. This artefact reflects my growth as a relationship builder because it taught me the importance of building positive relationships through meaningful interactions and collaboration. By encouraging the children to communicate and express themselves, listening to one another, and working together to create a product, I created an inclusive environment where every child felt valued and confident to contribute. Through this experience, I also learned that strong positive relationships help to support children’s social-emotional development and foster a sense of belonging, which allows them to actively contribute and to be engaged in lessons with one another. I chose this artefact as it represents a collaborative experience with my group members while we were gathering natural materials for the Discovery of the World assignment. We worked together to collect and select suitable materials that could be used to support children’s learning and exploration. Through this experience, I was able to communicate and
Official (Closed) – Non Sensitive 5 express my ideas while also listening and considering other perspectives from my group members. This artefact reflects my growth as a relationship builder as it strengthened my ability to work effectively as part of the team. Through this experience, I learned that successful teamwork requires clear communication, active listening, mutual respect, and the willingness to support one another. By sharing responsibilities and contributing to help one another, I learned to appreciate and understand the different strengths and ideas that each group member brought to the assignment. This experience helped me become more open to collaboration and teamwork and recognise that working together can lead to more meaningful and learning experiences for the children. Resilient Learner I chose this artefact as it represents my experience learning to use Bee- Bot and simple coding to introduce technology and coding concepts to young children. As I was new to programming and coding, operating the Bee-Bot was initially confusing and challenging. This experience pushed me to step out of my comfort zone and develop a new skill applicable to early childhood learning. This artefact reflects my growth as a resilient learner because I learned to persevere when faced with experiences that I was unfamiliar with. Through trial and error, I had to identify the mistakes in my coding and programming to get the Bee-Bot to move in the sequence that I wanted. Instead of becoming discouraged by the challenges that I faced, I learned to be patient and remain open to learning. This experience taught me that making mistakes is part of the learning process and that being willing to try again can help me develop greater confidence. I chose this artefact as it represents a challenge that I encountered while creating a take-home kit. I designed a spinning wheel as part of the resource, but during the testing process, I realised that the wheel did not spin properly. Although the resource did not work as I initially intended, the experience provided me with an opportunity to identify the problem and consider how the design can be improved. This artefact reflects my growth as a resilient learner because I learned that creating effective resources requires trial and error, and not every idea will be successful on the first try. Instead of being disappointed and viewing the first attempt as unsuccessful and negative, I learnt to remain patient, identify what went wrong, and what improvements I can make. This experience taught me to be more open to making changes and persevere through challenges. Professional Goals Short Term Goals: 1. My goal is to understand how to create developmentally appropriate learning resources to support children’s developmental needs, well-being, and differing interests. 2. My goal is to better understand how to create a positive classroom environment and manage children’s behaviours using appropriate strategies. 3. My goal is to improve my teaching and facilitating skills to create an inclusive environment to support and meet the needs of children with differing needs and interests. Long Term Goals: 1. My goal is to learn and improve practical and essential skills such as communication and building trust and relationships.
Official (Closed) – Non Sensitive 6 2. My goal is to keep myself updated on the latest Early Childhood knowledge, such as new technological skills like programming and coding that can be incorporated into learning activities for children. Professional Development Plan My Action Plan for Short Term Goals 1. I decided to take up the course “Task In A Box: Creating Resources for the Learning Corners”, as it equips educators with the knowledge and skills to design purposeful, developmentally appropriate resources that support children’s exploration and independent learning. 2. I decided to take up the course “Promoting Classroom Management Through Guidance Strategies and Positive Classroom Management”, as it equips educators with the knowledge of managing children’s behaviours using developmentally appropriate strategies to influence children’s thinking, which helps to promote a positive classroom community. Educators will also learn how to establish positive relationships with children by adopting developmentally appropriate strategies and guidance. 3. I decided to take up the course “Shaping Practices for Diverse Learners”, as it allows educators to visually analyse their teaching and facilitating skills and work to improve them to meet all the needs of the children and learn positive interactions with children. This course would help strengthen my ability to observe children’s learning, reflect on my teaching strategies, and make informed adjustments to better support every child’s development. My Action Plan for Long Term Goals 1. I decided to take up the course “Essentials of Leadership”, as it allows educators to learn practical and essential skills such as communication, building trust and relationships, teaming strategies, and handling challenging situations. These are essential skills that will be needed in future professional settings when planning and implementing learning experiences while collaborating with colleagues. 2. I decided to take up the course “Curious Creative Tinkers”, as educators will be trained on how to set up a tinkering space to allow for creative exploration, to facilitate different activities, such as Music, Movement, Art, games, and Light. Science, Math, Language, and Art concepts can also be incorporated through activities using the tinkering space. URL Link for Teaching E-Portfolio
