On the one hand, it represents a full month of summer fun where lakes are warm enough for a dip any time of the day, the fair season hits full stride with fairways full of Ferris wheels and barns full of 4-H livestock, and a time to pack in as much summer as possible. On the other hand, the month of August reminds me of the end of a season. A time when we know that the best of one season is coming to an end, and the uncertainty surrounding the next season attempts to draw our attention. Do you share a similar angst? The answer to such feelings is always to remind myself to be where my feet are planted. Living in the present moment and appreciating all the gifts and promise this moment holds helps to ground us. Being well grounded prepares us to better face whatever the next moment reveals whether in our life or in our faith. No doubt Pastor Tom is experiencing some of this as he reaches the f inal days of his sabbatical with the prospect of re-entry into a place that has been on its own journey while he has been on one as well. Ministry at Trinity is not exactly the way it was when we bid him farewell and Godspeed on May 17. We’ve been through growth, loss, and adjustments that have left us changed, just as he has during his sabbatical experience. In a story in 1Kings, the prophet Elijah faced a similar situation. He had fled into the wilderness and stood by the entrance to a cave waiting upon the Lord. He stood exactly where his feet were planted. There he experienced a great wind, an earthquake, and a f ire before he experienced God in the silence. The things behind him were no longer the same, and neither was he. This liminal moment would transport him f rom his past and move him boldly into the future God had revealed to him. We as a faith community stand in a liminal space in these early days of August, expectantly anticipating the return of Pastor Tom f rom his time of sabbatical. We are excited to hear stories and learn of new insights the Holy Spirit has made known to him during his time away. It will be with great care and patience that we help him acclimate himself to this new reality of ministry that also experienced three months of life. Together, we will move forward into God’s preferred future for us all. Bell (FIC BEL) “This is a really interesting mystery that keeps the reader on their toes with action, twists, and a cliffhanger ending. In 1901 England many books are still hand-bound. Lily, an apprentice bookbinder, finds a secret story hidden in a book and then begins the mystery and danger.” LIBRARY TIDINGSNEW BOOKS Land by Maggie O’Farrell Land is a sweeping historical novel set in post-Famine 1860s Ireland. It follows a traumatized Irish mapmaker and his family as they try to heal from the Great Hunger, resist British imperialism, and survive the trials of separation, migration, and ancient family folklore. (FIC OFA) We the People Is All the People by Howard W. Reeves This children’s picture book explores the meaning behind the famous opening words of the U.S. Constitution’s Preamble. The book advocates for inclusion and community, emphasizing that “we” must mean “all”. (++ 342.73 REE) Sing the 50 United States! by Dr. Seuss The manuscript for this book by Dr. Seuss was recently discovered and announced on October 28, 2025, and published on June 2, 2026, shortly before the United States Semiquincentennial. It is designed to teach children the names of the 50 U.S. states. At the end of the book, readers can learn more about Dr. Seuss and how the book came to be. We plan to leave f rom the Trinity parking lot around 7 am, attend a presentation on the Bible and view some of the original manuscripts, take part in a short noon prayer service in the Abbey, have lunch on site, and then participate in a visual Bible study based on the illuminations f rom the St. John’s Bible. AUGUST IS NATIONAL IMMUNIZATION AWARENESS MONTH Choosing to get vaccinated is one of the most powerful steps you can take to protect your health and the people you love. Vaccines train your immune system to fight off dangerous diseases before they can cause harm, safely preventing severe illness, hospitalization, and long-term health complications. By keeping your immunizations up to date, you do not just create a shield for yourself; you also build a wall of safety around vulnerable individuals in your community—like newborns, pregnant women, and cancer patients—who cannot receive certain vaccines themselves. Immunizations aren’t just for kids. People of all ages need vaccines to stay protected. Here are some key vaccines recommended at different life stages: Infants/Children: DTaP, Polio, RSV, MMR, Hepatitis B, Hib, Rotavirus, and Varicella Preteens/Teens: HPV, Tdap, Meningococcal, and Influenza Adults: Influenza, Tdap, Influenza, Pneumococcal, and RSV (for pregnant women) Seniors (Age 60+): Shingles, RSV, Influenza, and COVID-19 COVID-19 vaccine is recommended for all individuals ages 6-months and older based on shared clinical decision-making. For additional recommended immunizations, please visit CDC’s website or check with your Primary Care Provider for details. Vaccines are safe, effective, and help protect the entire community. CARE & CONCERNCAREGIVERS’ CORNER: SUPPORTING OUR CAREGIVERS THIS SUMMER! Summer is a season of warmth, travel, and changing routines. While many of us look forward to vacations and sunny days, summer can bring extra challenges for the caregivers in our congregation. Whether caring for an aging parent, a spouse, or a child with special needs, caregivers often face increased isolation and exhaustion during these months. The Hidden Challenges of Summer Caregiving The heat presents real physical risks. Many older adults do not feel thirst the way younger people do, making dehydration a constant concern. Also, certain common medications can increase sensitivity to heat and sun. Over exposure to the sun can cause sunburns, dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke. Beyond the physical demands, summer disrupts normal routines. School breaks, family vacations, and changing schedules can mean a loss of regular support systems, such as adult day programs or volunteer helpers who travel. How Our Church Family Can Help As a community of faith, we are called to bear one another’s burdens. Here are a few practical ways you can support a caregiver this summer: Drop off a cool treat: Visit a caregiver with a basket of hydrating snacks, fresh fruit, or cold drinks. Offer a "breather" hour: Regular breaks allow caregivers to rest, attend appointments, reconnect with relationships, recover emotionally, and simply step away from constant responsibility for a time. Volunteer to sit with their loved one for just one or two hours so the caregiver can run errands, attend a doctor's appointment, or simply rest. Keep up the yard: Offer to mow their lawn, weed their garden, or water their plants during the hottest weeks of the year. Stay connected: Caregiving can be incredibly isolating. A simple text, phone call, or brief porch visit lets them know they are not forgotten. Caregivers: Accept Help, Specifically and Clearly: One of the hardest parts of caregiving for many people is accepting help. Caregivers often feel guilty asking, worry about burdening others, or believe it is simply easier to do everything themselves. At the same time, friends and family frequently do care. They just do not know what would actually be helpful. CHILDREN, YOUTH, & FAMILYColorado Adventure Trip This past July 12-17, 17 youth and 4 adults (including CYF director Katie Conner) traveled to Estes Park, Colorado for the 2026 Adventure Trip. During our time together, we spent time in Rocky Mountain National Park, hiking, and doing other activities at YMCA of the Rockies, toured the historical Stanley Hotel, went fly fishing and horseback riding, explored the city of Estes Park, and spent a lot of time laughing and having fun. Thank you to all who supported the youth and their fundraising efforts, and also for all who prayed for them during this exciting and transformative opportunity! 2026-2027 Faith Formation Faith Formation opportunities begin in September for children preschool age through high school and registration will be available online later in August. Watch your mailbox (and email inbox) for more information! Be a Faith Formation Teacher! Consider being part of the team that shares the Good News with our children every week! Sunday School teachers are needed on Sunday mornings from 8:50-9:35 am. Teaching materials, supplies, and support are provided. Because we’ll have family faith formation classes on the first Sunday of each month, classroom teachers will only teach an average of 3 times each month. Teachers are also needed for Connections (Pre-Confirmation, grades 5-6) classes on Wednesday nights from 6:45-7:45 pm. Faith Formation classes begin mid-September and run through April. Consider finding a partner to share the job! Adults and youth (high school age or older) are invited to volunteer as teachers. This is a great opportunity to serve in Christ’s love and share the Good News! Watch for a sign-up in the lobby or contact Katie Conner at katie@trinity-ec.org. Be a Confirmation Small Group Leader! This is a wonderful opportunity to grow in faith while leading a small group of enthusiastic students! Confirmation small group leaders are responsible for leading a small group of 6-8 students. They participate with their group in the large group lesson taught by Pastor Tom and then lead a discussion with their small group following the lesson. Confirmation meets weekly on Wednesdays, October-April, from 6:45-7:45 pm. This is a great opportunity to serve in Christ’s love and share the Good News! Watch for a sign-up in the lobby or contact Pastor Tom at tomw@trinity-ec.org. AUGUST CORNER CUPBOARD NOTICE TO ALL GARDENERS: Do you ever find yourself with an excess of vegetables from your garden? Your freezer is full, you have run out of canning jars, and your neighbors lock their door when they see you coming with a box of greens? Instead of tossing these fresh usable vegetables into the compost pile, please consider bringing them to Trinity's Food Pantry. Thank-you to the Trinity Endowment Trust for the generous grant of $3,000! COMMUNITY In June Associated Bank employees delivered 170 pounds of food and volunteered to work a pantry shift serving 50 famlies. Thanks Associated Bank for choosing Trinity Food Pantry for your community give back. Thank-you to First Presbyterian Church who continues to host a monthly food drive and have donated over 600 pounds of food so far this year. ACTIVITY/FINANCIAL Number of families served: 4,600 Current dedicated account balance: $57,600 Average number of families served each week: 174 Total food costs for year of 2026: $30,000 Total pounds of food distributed: 150,000 CHILDREN’S BIBLE FUND Each fall, Trinity blesses dozens of children with new Bibles as a fulfilment of the promise that is made in baptism to “place in their hands the holy scriptures.” Please consider donating to the Children’s Bible Fund. We hope you have been enjoying a fun and relaxing summer with family and friends. While summer has been full of adventures, we've also been busy getting ready for another exciting school year at Noah's Ark! Our classrooms are being cleaned, organized, and prepared to welcome children back this fall. Teachers have been planning activities, setting up classrooms, and looking forward to meeting new students while welcoming back familiar faces. We can't wait to hear the excitement, laughter, and stories that fill our halls once school begins. Registration for the 2026–2027 school year is still open for our Noah's Ark Preschool classes (ages 3–5) and our Early Childhood Enrichment classes (ages 18 months–3 years). Most of our classes are full, but we still have a few openings available. If you know a family looking for a caring, play-based, faith-filled preschool experience, we'd love to visit with them. Space is limited. Noah's Ark Preschool, Monday/Wednesday afternoons (12:45- 3:15), for children 4 years old by 9.1.2026. This class has an emphasis on science, early literacy, and creative arts. Music & Movement-Children will move and groove as they explore music with song, dance and instruments. This is an adult caregiver/child class. Free play and discovery, as well as some teacher-led structured activities are included. For children who are 18 months-36 months at the time of the session. We are asking for the congregations help. Check out our display in the lobby for lists of supplies that are needed for students this year. Any help is appreciated. Throughout the school year we will be providing food for the pantry, snacks, and books. As well as other needs like clothing, shoes, and boots. We also focus on staff appreciation throughout the year. We also need volunteers to work at the school pantry, so if anyone would like to help us, please feel free to contact us. If anyone is interested in joining our committee, or wants information on it, please contact any member of the committee. Contributions to this ministry are accepted and greatly appreciated any time during the year. MUSIC & PRAISEThroughout the Bible, we are given instructions to make joyful noises to the Lord, and not just with our voices, but also with instruments and movement! Here at Trinity Lutheran Church, we have many wonderful opportunities to praise God through music. There are opportunities for all ages and talents! Praise Team: Trinity’s Praise Team helps lead our contemporary worship services with familiar Christian contemporary songs that invite the congregation to praise God together. Each week, singers and instrumentalists—including guitar, bass, drums, and keyboard players—share their gifts in worship. We would love to welcome new voices and instruments to the team! Whether you are able to help for special occasions, occasionally as needed, or on a rotating schedule, there is a place for you. Trinity Choir: We are eagerly inviting and welcoming singers to sing with the Trinity Choir this Fall as we begin our season with Wednesday rehearsals beginning on September 9, from 6:45 to 7:45 in the choir room (enter through door 1). We invite anyone from confirmation age and beyond to sing in our adult choir. We are in need of singers in all voice ranges. We welcome “snowbirds,” singers with busy schedules and occasional conflicts, and offer a special invitation to new members of Trinity. We will be welcoming back our scholarship singers from UWEC who serve as section leaders, cantors, and soloists when needed. Director: Corinne Gransee Paral corinne@trinity-ec.org God’s Little Singers God’s Little Singers (GLS) is a choir for children in 4K-2nd grade. The choir meets in room 402 on Wednesday evenings from 5:00-5:55. Children learn about God’s love through music, story time, and fun activities. GLS sings at the 9:45 service a few times throughout the school year and joins with TJC to put on a musical in the spring! We are still looking for a GLS director for this coming year. If you are interested in directing the choir, or if you have any questions for having your child participate in the choir, please email Sue Jensen at suej@trinity-ec.org. CrossWord: CrossWord is Trinity’s youth band, led by Andy Hofer. Students in 7th-12th grade will practice Christian contemporary songs to lead worship music one Sunday a month during the school year. CrossWord is a great stepping stone for students who are learning musical instruments and want to eventually play with the praise team. If you have a student who is interested in joining the CrossWord youth band, please contact Andy at andyhofer31@gmail.com. Trinity Tollers: Trinity Tollers is Trinity Lutheran’s handbell choir. The Tollers meet Tuesday evenings at 6:00pm in the Worship Center to rehearse. The Tollers learn beautiful arrangements of classic hymns and play once a month during traditional services. All are welcome, no experience necessary! The Trinity Tollers handbell choir is open to youth going into 7th grade to adults of all ages.
