Over time, many of these historic structures have experienced deterioration, underutilization, and incompatible alterations, threatening their historical significance and long-term preservation. This thesis reimagines Calle Real as a vibrant heritage district where preservation and contemporary use coexist, ensuring that these landmarks remain meaningful and relevant for future generations. The proposal encompasses 15 heritage structures, categorized into preservation, adaptive reuse, and compatible new construction, creating a balanced approach to conservation and urban revitalization. The project started with extensive research on the town's Spanish colonial heritage, architectural character, historical significance, and conservation policies. Site documentation and cultural mapping provided a comprehensive understanding of Calle Real and its surrounding context before any planning or design interventions were proposed. The research then progressed through community surveys and interviews with local residents, property owners, local government officials, engineers, and heritage conservation professionals. Their insights identified the district's preservation priorities, existing challenges, and opportunities for adaptive reuse, ensuring that the master plan responded not only to the built environment but also to the needs and aspirations of the community. The proposal was informed by 165 respondents, including community members, heritage experts, government representatives, engineers, and property owners. Their feedback shaped the preservation strategies, adaptive reuse proposals, and public space improvements throughout the project. The study revealed that many heritage buildings continue to retain their architectural authenticity despite deterioration and changing uses. Existing landmarks are carefully conserved through minimal and compatible interventions, while adaptive reuse introduces new functions that support tourism, education, commerce, and community life. New developments are designed to complement the existing heritage fabric through appropriate scale, materials, and contextual design. My contribution focused on the planning and architectural design of six key interventions within the heritage corridor, demonstrating how preservation and contemporary architecture can work together to revitalize an entire historic district. Key Design Interventions Heritage Streetscape Redeveloped Calle Real into a pedestrian-friendly heritage corridor that enhances walkability while preserving the historic streetscape and public realm. Diversion Road Introduced an alternative traffic route to reduce vehicular congestion within the heritage district, creating a safer and more pedestrian-oriented environment. Adaptive Reuse Museum Adaptively reused the former Municipio into a museum that celebrates the history and cultural identity of Pagsanjan while preserving its architectural character. Heritage Restaurant Preserved an ancestral house that continues to operate as a heritage restaurant, protecting its historic architectural features while supporting its ongoing commercial use. Plaza Hotel Revitalization Revitalized the historic Plaza Hotel through sensitive preservation and functional improvements that enhance its continued use while maintaining its heritage significance. Riverfront Esplanade Designed a public riverfront esplanade that reconnects Calle Real with the Pagsanjan River, creating an accessible open space that promotes recreation, tourism, and community activities. "SIERA”2025 "TANGLAW: A Beacon of Innovation" Design Competition ARC107P Design 8 Competition Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna Location: EDSA–Ortigas, Metro Manila Project Type: Mixed-Use High-Rise Development Role: Team Leader2026 SIERA is a mixed-use skyscraper inspired by the strength and resilience of the Sierra Madre mountain range. Located within the EDSA– Ortigas corridor, the project reimagines high- density urban living by integrating residential, commercial, hospitality, entertainment, and public spaces into a sustainable vertical community. The design balances environmental responsibility, functionality, and contemporary architecture, creating a landmark that responds to both its urban context and the needs of future users. Before the design phase, our team conducted extensive research on the site's history, urban conditions, and development potential. We also interviewed the president of the company behind the site's original high-rise proposal, gaining valuable insights into the project's initial vision, construction challenges, and the reasons the development was discontinued. The use of deep piling or raft foundations to bypass weak soil layers.Post Tension Cable - Commonly used in large infrastructure projects, with the site near at the MRT railways, it needs support to enhance structural strength.Scaffolding and Support Beams – Some steel supports and framework are still visible, though they are heavily rusted. The site’s exposed steel reinforcements suffer from rust and corrosion, further deteriorating the structural integrity.Dense Overgrowth of Vegetation – Trees, vines, and grass have taken over parts of the structure, growing through cracks and open spaces. Some areas appear almost forest- like. Cascading green terraces, organic massing, and nature-inspired materials soften the tower's scale while strengthening the connection between the built environment and nature. Environmental performance was a key design priority. The tower was carefully oriented to minimize shadow impact on nearby residential communities, while a high-performance glazed façade improves daylighting and reduces heat gain. Architecture can adapt, move, and transform, providing a new purpose to its users”2026 OriHaus is a compact container home designed for a family of four, balancing flexibility, functionality, and sustainability within a limited footprint. The design responds to the unique lifestyles of its occupants—a content creator, a motorcycle enthusiast, and their two children—by creating adaptable spaces that support work, leisure, and family life. Inspired by the concept of origami, OriHaus transforms a standard 45-foot shipping container into a flexible living environment through foldable and expandable elements. "Orihaus” Design Development The design started with a standard 45-foot shipping container, which I transformed into a flexible home tailored to the lifestyle of a modern family. Understanding the needs of a content creator, a motorcycle enthusiast, and two growing children, I focused on creating spaces that could easily adapt to work, family life, and leisure. To maximize the limited footprint, I introduced expandable walls, foldable decks, and multifunctional spaces that create a more open and comfortable living environment.
