COMPANY OVERVIEW 02 Our History Our Mission Habitat for Humanity Winona County was founded in 1994 and finished its 1st Habitat home in that year as well. Since then, Habitat Winona County has built 56 homes and completed over 350 home repairs - prioritizing our most vulnerable community members. In 2003, Habitat Winona County became the first affiliate in Minnesota to start a Habitat ReStore, providing quality, low-cost goods to our community members. Habitat Winona County remains committed to meeting community need through innovative solutions. DONOR ADVISED FUNDS 08 How it works Establish your Fund by making an irrevocable, tax-deductible donation to a public charity that sponsors a Donor Advised Fund program like the Winona Community Foundation Recommend grants to qualified public charities of your choice PEOPLE LOVE THEIR DONOR-ADVISED FUNDS FOR THEIR FLEXIBILITY AND CONVENIENCE. Plan your Gift! 1.Consult with a local attorney or financial planner about creating your will or estate plan. 2.If you require a basic will you can create one online or simply use store-bought legal forms. Several websites allow you to create a will from your own desktop computer. 3.Specify what you’d like to leave to causes that are important to you (Specific amount, Percentage, Residual, or a Contingent Bequest). Gifts of real estate are also welcome. IRA CHARITABLE DISTRIBUTION 11 Background In 2015 the PATH act made permanent the ability for individuals to roll over up to $100,000 from an individual retirement account (IRA) directly to a qualifying charity without recognizing the assets transferred to the qualifying charity as taxable income. How to make a Contribution You may be able to make outright gifts of up to $111,000 to Habitat for Humanity from your IRA and have such gifts count toward your minimum distribution requirement while also excluding the transferred amount from your taxable income. To qualify, you must meet the following requirements: You must be 70 ½ or older The transfer must go directly from your traditional or Roth IRA to Amnesty (401(k), 403(b) and SEPs are not eligible). Your gift cannot exceed $111,000 per year (this is the 2026 rate, please check current IRS laws for current QCD maximums) Your gift counts toward your required minimum distribution You will pay no federal income tax on your distribution. However, the distribution is not reportable as income, so you will NOT receive a charitable income tax deduction for the gift. Discuss these with your tax planner as state taxes may still apply Please note that transfers to charitable remainder trusts, gift annuities, donor advised funds and private foundations do not qualify. Together with you, we repair homes and build safe, decent, and affordable shelters for families living in unsafe conditions. The gift of real estate, specifically undeveloped land, helps us find the next place to build a dream home for someone in our community. A land donation, as it sounds, is when you convey the title of your property over to a charitable organization. They become the new owners of the property, assuming all the financial responsibilities – from property taxes to upkeep. They also use the land as they see fit, whether that includes selling it, renting it out, or using it in some other way to generate income for their charitable activities. LAND DONATION 13 Steps and Implications Assess properties fair market value Research reputable organizations in which to give to (Like, Habitat Winona County!) Transfer property title to the organization All donations must comply with IRS regulations to qualify for tax deductions. We encourage donors to work with tax advisor or legal professional to help navigate these regulations.
RESTORE DONATION 14 Donate your gently used and new items! All ReStore sales fund our mission to repair and build local homes. 1) What items does the ReStore accept? We take new and gently used building materials, appliances, cabinets, hardware, tools, and furniture. All items should be in good, clean, and usable condition. 2) Where can I bring my donations? All donations can be conveniently dropped off in our drive-thru on the east side of our building located at 900 W 3rd Street. 3) What if I need my items picked up? It's as easy as clicking the "Schedule Pickup" button below. You can also email the ReStore at restore@habitatwinona.org or call 507.474.6075. 4) Is there anything the ReStore doesn’t accept? At this time, we cannot accept: TVs Mattresses or bedding Infant furniture Fluorescent light fixtures or bulbs Pressboard furniture Partial cans of paint Exercise equipment Entertainment centers Large office desks Household chemicals Medical equipment Unframed or broken mirrors Anything that is damaged, dirty, outdated, or not likely to resell All donation pick-ups must be ready for pickup on the ground level, garage, or driveway of your home or business. VOLUNTEER YOUR TIME 16 ReStore Volunteers Description: The ReStore’s mission is to be a fundraiser for our local Habitat for Humanity. The Winona ReStore has a variety of tasks for every skill level, such as cashier, donation pick-up assistant, pricing, scrapping, sorting, and cleaning. We welcome other service and religious groups to volunteer in our store. Due to safety regulations, store volunteers need to be at least 18 years old. Time commitment: The ReStore is open Wednesday through Friday 11 am to 5 pm and Saturdays 10 am to 4 pm. Days are divided in half, with a morning shift and an afternoon shift. We request that volunteers commit to at least one shift per month. Construction Volunteers Description: Construction volunteers help with a variety of tasks on the work site. They may pour footings for foundations, build interior walls, install shingles, hang drywall, or put finishing touches on a house. Skills: No construction skill or building experience is necessary. All you need is a willingness to learn, work hard, and have a good time. Groups: Please contact John Corcoran at 507.312.0254 to schedule a weekday or Saturday for your group. Campus Chapters: Campus Chapters at Saint Mary’s University and Winona State University are involved at the work site, in the office, and at the ReStore.
