The thesis project is a design-based case study on integrating Tigrayan cultural identity into a contemporary café interior in Kebele 16, Mekelle. It proposes a hybrid café layout with communal zones inspired by the traditional Tigrayan social space 'Wushate', a stone-clad reception desk, and 'kebhi'-inspired shelving. The research addresses four questions on suitable design features, stakeholder perceptions, design strategies, and challenges.
The portfolio includes 3D exterior renderings of a G+5+T hotel in Hiwane, Tigray, modeled in Revit and rendered in Lumion. Another exterior rendering shows a G+3 office in Mekelle with classical style and warm grooved concrete texture, modeled in Revit and SketchUp. A third exterior project reimagines a Popeyes brand container café with a modern industrial aesthetic, modeled in SketchUp.
