This is the October 2026 edition of a newsletter published by the Columbia (SC) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated. It is intended for chapter members and community partners interested in the group's service programs and events.

The newsletter opens with a table of contents listing sections on programming, friendship, community reads, services to youth, health and human services, international trends, national trends and services, and the arts. It includes a calendar of upcoming programming.

A major focus is early childhood literacy. The document reports that nearly 2 in 3 children are not reading at grade level by age 10. It describes read-aloud sessions for grades K-5 at Carver Lyon, with a goal of serving 300 students and distributing 750 books by the end of the school year.

The newsletter covers the Jubilee Festival and Literacy Initiative, listing partnerships with Historic Columbia, Scholastic Books, Riverbanks Zoo, SC ETV, and others. Activities included STEM and robotics demonstrations, a book giveaway, smoothie-making, an opera read-aloud, and creation of a 'We Shall Be Heard' mural about civil rights and voting.

International programming includes a Peace Pole installation for National Peace Day, where students write words about peace and letters to a chapter-adopted school in Nairobi, Kenya. The International Trends and Services Facet aims to increase educational opportunities in the African diaspora.

The document also reports on member engagement: 20 of 53 members participated in a September read-aloud for 15 students. It includes a thank-you note from Historic Columbia's Director of Advancement and lists alumna members as the 'Driving Force' of the chapter.
