01 Academic Ground-up The war in Gaza City has severely damaged the environment, threatening water and food security by degrading the aquifer and soil. Ground-Up proposes a regenerative infrastructure approach, integrating ecology and architecture within a wastewater and soil treatment facility along Wadi Gaza. Using a low-tech catenary structure built from local materials like loam soil, date palm fibers, and magnesium oxide, the project expands wetland, wastewater, and agricultural systems, transforming the site into a public space that fosters community participation. Its second phase introduces a 30-year plan for ecosystem recovery, focusing on soil remediation, agricultural rehabilitation, freshwater generation, and wetland creation. By uniting infrastructure, environment, and public programs, through retention ponds, water channels, and greenhouses, Ground-Up shifts the post-war focus from rebuilding to regeneration, making Wadi Gaza a hub for ecological recovery and sustainable development. Incremental loads were applied until the material reached its failure point, at which the load was recorded. Each specimen was positioned vertically centrally within a jig equipped with a flat plate on top to ensure even load distribution during testing. The flat plate was designed with edge stoppers to enable a smooth, tilt-free descent under increasing load. Topological planning used the Public Space Quality Matrix to define spatial relationships, categorizing areas into public, private, and semi-public spaces to create a catalogue of elements. Multi-objective optimization using Wallacei guided the strategic placement of semi-public spaces to connect private and public areas through courtyards. Finite Element Analysis assessed stress distribution, while solar radiation analysis guided the placement of openings to maximize sunlight exposure and environmental performance. These principles informed an architectural solution to enhance indoor play areas in London parks during extreme temperatures, creating a data-driven structure with environmental and societal benefits. Physical prototypes and digital experiments were conducted using iterative processes to optimize sun radiation management for summer and winter. Finite element, sun radiation, and fluid dynamics analyses guided the design, while physical experiments tested airflow system deployability and joinery functionality. The result is an adaptive roofing system for Hyde Park, integrating nature-inspired design to enhance occupant comfort in extreme conditions. Hyde Park, London, UK

The Qamariyah or ﻗﻤرﻳﺔ is a vibrant stained-glass feature above doors and windows found in old houses and mosques around Syria. Originating in the Ottoman period, the Qamariyah was more than decoration; it was an ingenious piece of environmental design. Made from carved plaster or wood inlaid with colored glass, it softened harsh sunlight into a gentle, diffused glow, casting calming colors across the room. Each Qamariyah was tailored to its placement, with patterns and glass chosen according to the sun’s direction, making it both art and a precise climatic solution. For my proposal, I reimagine the Qamariyah as a modern room divider. Inspired by Damascene geometry and our traditional flowers, the arched panel can be moved and reconfigured, carrying forward this tradition of shaping light while using colors drawn from Syrian heritage. 04.A Proposal for Syrian Cultural Council Taif
Fayy reimagines a shading structure as a computationally optimized, undulating form, designed for comfort, sustainability, and performance, while standing as an icon of humane infrastructure in Dubai. Why the Undulating Form? The undulating form enhances performance by generating layered shadows throughout the day, reducing heat accumulation through increased surface airflow, and transforming a utilitarian object into an urban landmark. To achieve that, Wallacei for Multi-Objective Optimization (MOO) was used, which is a method that helps designers find the best balance between competing goals. 04.B Proposal for Dubai Design Weekّ فَي FAYY Selection of the phenotypes:
05 Design & BuildDesign & Build DensiFlora The AA Emergent Technologies and Design Programme, in collaboration with Populous, has created DensiFlora, a pavilion exhibited in Bedford Square, exploring sustainable architecture with rattan canes. The project integrates computational design and robotic fabrication to advance rattan as a renewable biomaterial for lightweight, bending- active structures. Using generative design, material computation, and prototyping, DensiFlora demonstrates rattan’s structural potential through a full-scale prototype. Robotic fabrication adapts traditional techniques to computational methods, showcasing new possibilities for biomaterials in large-scale construction.
