Ways we support WOMEN Ways we support CHILDRENABOUT OUR ORGANISATION Gunawirra is a Aboriginal community controlled organisation dedicated to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and communities. Nurturing environment to form friendships with the chance to learn from one another’s lived experiences. Embark on a Cultural journey, learning from Aboriginal Elders and facilitators. Activities include weaving, art, dreaming stories and more. Opportunity to work with Social workers on an as-needs basis. Safe space for women to work on and acheive their goals, discuss mental health matters and focus on well- being. Sessions led by our Nutritionist, aimed at improving cooking skills and food knowledge to promote healthier choices for an improved lifestyle. Free access to allied health services including Speech Therapy, Art Therapy, Nutritionist and more. Socialisation with other children of a similar age with designated time for play, learning and exploring. Connection to Culture through learning dreaming stories, traditional games and art shared by Aboriginal Elders and knowledge holders. Establishing a routine and working towards meeting developmental milestones to ensure they are school ready. Educational and recreational excursions to encourage learning and meeting developmental goals. ABOUT YARNING ABORIGINAL MOTHER PROGRAMThe Yarning Aboriginal Mothers Program (YAMP) is a Culturally safe and welcoming space for mums and carers with Aboriginal children. We provide support through from pregnancy up until the little ones are ready to graduate out of the program, school ready at 5 years old. A free weekly program offered on Tuesdays to Thursdays at Rozelle, Westmead and West Ryde from 10am - 2pm. The welcoming environment offers a place for mums and bubs to engage with other families with time to focus on play and development. YAMP is tailored to each families needs, working towards positive outcomes, ensuring flexibility with a self-guided approach. This is more than just a program; it is a community of support, learning and empowerment. Together, we are building a brighter future for our children, one that is rooted in Culture, connection and care.
