Innswood Academic Spotlight is a school newsletter from Innswood High School, written for teachers and staff to share achievements, strategies and updates across departments. The first issue, September 2026 Volume 1, is introduced by Vice Principal Helen Austin with a call to celebrate work that often goes unnoticed.
The featured Mathematics Department describes its focus on making learning engaging and practical. Teachers use manipulatives to move students from concrete to abstract stages. The department reports improved pass rates in CSEC and City & Guilds in 2026, and is relaunching its Mathematics Club this term. Head of Department Keneisha Bryan shares a commitment to helping students experience success.
Teacher shout-outs recognize Ms. Donna-Kay Wilmot for preparing physical learning resources and Mr. Eric Brown for improved punctuality and engaging sessions. A best practice corner, shared by Mrs. Tracey-Ann Clarke-Ellis, describes using real money instead of play money to teach a mathematics concept, helping students connect more readily.
The academic calendar lists October events including CXC registration, Mathematics Intervention Programme start, PTA meeting, Heritage Celebration, Six Weeks Tests, Mid-Term Break, Professional Development Day, NEI Inspection, Mathematics Club Launch and Data Day. Brief updates from other departments cover Hospitality, Humanities, Administration and Agriculture, including baby chicks for poultry studies.
The newsletter closes with thanks to contributors from Mathematics, Agriculture, Hospitality and Humanities departments, and an invitation to submit content for the next October issue.
