Our projects this year were not mere exercises; they were strategic endeavors aimed at advancing the SDGs. The challenge of aligning all our initiatives with these global goals was met with innovation and dedication by our students, and faculty, who successfully translated academic theory into tangible, sustainable community impact across Davao and the region. Our non- teaching personnel also proved to be committed partners in sustainability as they actively volunteered for the different institutional activities. The stories inside are a testament to our commitment to excellent, relevant, and future-ready education. Our students didn't just study global problems—they engineered context-specific, sustainable solutions. They moved beyond the classroom walls to become true partners in global progress and local sustainability. For Academic Year 2024–2025, the institution remained committed to implementing key initiatives that address social and environmental concerns while fostering holistic learning. Among these is the Adopt-a-Riverbank Program, which has been implemented since April 2023 at the Panigan-Tamugan Watershed. The program promotes tree planting, riverbank rehabilitation, and environmental awareness to help protect one of Davao City's vital water sources. In the area of education, Program H.E.L.P. (Help End Learning Poverty), implemented since September 2023, addresses learning poverty by strengthening literacy and numeracy skills. Complementing this initiative is the Mass Tutorial Program, launched in October 2024, which mobilizes students to mentor children in partner communities and reinforce foundational learning. Acts of compassion are likewise reflected in the H.O.P.E. Gift Giving Program, conducted in December 2024, which brought essential goods and holiday cheer to families in need. Complementing these efforts is the Plastic Pitch-In campaign, an institutional waste reduction initiative that has been implemented since 2018 to promote environmental responsibility and sustainable practices. Most recently, Mapúa MCM introduced FinEd (Financial Education) as one of its institutional community engagement initiatives. Implemented in partnership with the BPI Foundation, FinEd empowers students and partner communities with essential financial knowledge and practical life skills, further advancing the institution's commitment to sustainable and inclusive community development. On October 26, 2025, and April 12, 2025, three CCIS employees participated in the institution’s Tree- Growing Activity at the Panigan-Tamugan Watershed in Barangay Tawan- Tawan, Baguio District, Davao City. This strong participation reflects the department’s dedication to advancing environmental action and promoting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 13 (Climate Action), 15 (Life on Land), and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). Through its active involvement, CCIS continues to exemplify how academic communities can play a vital role in environmental stewardship and sustainability.Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao (Mapúa MCM) reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), with particular emphasis on environmental protection and sustainability. In line with its environmental stewardship initiatives, Mapúa MCM recently conducted a tree-growing activity at its adopted riverbank site within the Panigan–Tamugan Watershed in Barangay Tawan-Tawan, Baguio District—a critical watershed identified as Davao City’s next major water source. The activity mobilized Mapúa MCM employees and students, in partnership with Bantay Bukid and the Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) of Tawan-Tawan. The initiative forms part of Mapúa MCM’s Adopt-A-Riverbank Program, which seeks to rehabilitate and safeguard key watershed areas vital to the city’s future water security through sustained community engagement and long-term tree care. The Planet pillar was highlighted during the April 11 and June 20–21 sessions, focusing on the state of the environment and pathways toward its protection. Atty. Mark Penalver - Executive Director of the Interfacing Development Interventions for Sustainability (IDIS) Inc. set the foundation by discussing sustainability, its pillars, and pressing environmental challenges, linking these issues to SDGs 7, 11, 12, and 13, and emphasizing solutions such as renewable energy, circular economy practices, CSR, and individual action. Building on this, Peter Damary - Founder and CEO of FiveDOL Upcycling Corp. (LimaDOL) centered his discussion on SDG 12, addressing responsible consumption and production and the role of food waste upcycling in mitigating climate change. Dr. Darrell Dean Blatchley - Founder of D' Bone Collector Museum Inc, provided insights into the condition of Philippine seas and marine biodiversity, aligning with SDGs 14 and 15, while Porferio Jabla, Jr. Chairperson of the Board Director of Yamog Renewable Energy Development Group, Inc. examined energy access in off-grid communities, underscoring the importance of renewable energy in advancing SDGs 7 and 13. On August 29, the focus shifted to Prosperity, where sustainability was framed as a pathway to inclusive growth and long-term economic resilience. What began as an institutional initiative has blossomed into a vibrant platform connecting education, sustainability, and local livelihood. Rooted in the school’s mission to support both the environment and the community, the Farm-to-School Market Days serve as a bridge between local farmers and the Mapúan community. Through the program, students, employees, and parents gain direct access to fresh produce while championing the cause of sustainable consumption and local enterprise. Today, the initiative proudly partners with six active associations from the Rural Improvement Clubs, supported by the City Agriculturist’s Office. These dedicated farmers hail from Biao Guianga, Bago Oshiro, New Valencia, Waan, Calinan, and Sirawan—bringing the fruits of their hard work straight to the heart of the Mapúa MCM campus. Recently, the DAMACAFO x CAMP Asia collaboration has also joined the growing network, expanding the reach of this community-driven effort. Held monthly, the Farm-to-School Market Days usually run for two days, sometimes extending to accommodate school events and community participation. Beyond its market stalls, the event has become a living reminder of Mapúa MCM’s commitment to sustainability —encouraging everyone to bring eco-bags and reusable containers as part of its advocacy to reduce plastic waste. As Mapúa MCM looks forward to more fruitful years of implementation, the Farm-to-School Market Days continue to sow the seeds of awareness, responsibility, and collaboration— proving that sustainability truly begins when communities grow together. These were crafted using single-use plastics gathered through the Plastic Pitch-In Project of A.Y. 2024–2025. Since its launch, the Plastic Pitch-In initiative has collected 3,000 kilograms of recyclable plastics in 2018–2019. Although collection activities were temporarily halted during the COVID-19 pandemic (2020–2021), the institution resumed the initiative with the reopening of campus operations, collecting 2,960 kilograms in 2022, 2,500 kilograms in 2023, and 2,213 kilograms in 2024. These collective efforts have significantly contributed to the production of the recycled furniture now found across the campus. Strategically placed along walkways and within garden areas, the benches and tables are now being enjoyed by students and employees alike— serving as ideal spots for group discussions, meetings, and casual lunches or breaks. Beyond providing functional outdoor spaces, these installations symbolize Mapúa MCM’s continuous commitment to environmental preservation and sustainable innovation. Produced entirely from plastic waste, the benches and picnic tables offer a meaningful example of how discarded materials can be transformed into lasting, eco-friendly fixtures. Mapúa MCM Cuts Energy Use by 72 kWh Through Walk on Wednesday Initiative The bar chart compares elevator electricity consumption with and without the Walk on Wednesday (WOW) initiative. With WOW, only two elevators run, using a total of 14.4 kWh. Without WOW, six elevators consume 86.4 kWh. This highlights a weekly energy savings of 72 kWh through the program. Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao (Mapúa MCM) has achieved significant energy savings through its Walk on Wednesday (WOW) initiative, which encourages students, faculty, and staff to take the stairs instead of elevators every Wednesday. Based on school data, operating only two elevators during WOW consumes about 14.4 kWh, compared to the usual 86.4 kWh when all six are running. The workshop aimed to teach high school students how to use Canva in creating schoolwork materials such as posters and presentations. It also sought to help participants develop basic design skills, enhance visual creativity, and encourage effective communication through visual presentations. During the event, the students attended a short tutorial that introduced Canva and its uses for academic projects. Afterward, they worked on their own school-related designs with the assistance of the facilitators. At the end of the session, students presented their outputs, which showcased their creativity and demonstrated their learning progress. The activity concluded with a school supplies donation as part of the outreach initiative. The College of Computer and Information Science (CCIS), through its Entertainment and Multimedia Computing (EMC) program, started an advocacy campaign on Good Hygiene on December 20, 2024 at Barangay Baganihan, Marilog District, Davao City. The initiative aimed to instill proper hygiene practices among children and promote overall health and well-being in the community. The campaign benefited 100 pupils from Grades 1 and 2 of Baganihan Elementary School. CCIS faculty members and selected EMC students facilitated the activities, which included step-by- step guides on proper hygiene techniques and the distribution and demonstration of hygiene kits containing soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, and nail cutters. The tree planting activity took place at the ALI Davao Carbon Forest (ADCF), a 50-hectare reforestation and conservation site owned by Ayala Land Incorporated and managed by the Philippine Eagle Foundation. The site was selected for its crucial role in environmental stewardship under the Carbon Warrior Program, which engages companies and volunteers in climate action efforts. The activity primarily aimed to instill a sense of environmental responsibility among students while strengthening their understanding of ecosystem services, biodiversity conservation, and the role of trees in mitigating climate change. The activity reflected IMES-MMCM’s commitment to responsible engineering and environmentally sustainable practices, giving students a hands-on opportunity to apply their technical skills in real-world contexts. It also served as the first step in establishing a long-term partnership with LimaDOL, an organization dedicated to reducing food waste through upcycling and composting using Black Soldier Flies (BSF). During the activity, participants engaged in maintenance and repair tasks within the upcycling farm and conducted site surveying that would later inform the design and construction of a greenhouse facility for drying byproducts. The hands-on work allowed students to see how local enterprises contributed to climate resilience, food systems, and circular economy models, while also highlighting the importance of engineering solutions in addressing environmental challenges. The initiative successfully met its objectives by immersing students in sustainability practices and showing the value of applying mechanical engineering knowledge for social and environmental impact. Medical Mission for Essential Drugs and Services | MAPHA officers and pharmacy students provided free medical consultations, distributed essential medicines, and led health education sessions for residents of Barangay Tawan-Tawan during the MMEDS medical mission. On July 6, 2025, the Medical Mission for Essential Drugs and Services (MMEDS) was successfully carried out by the College of Health Sciences in collaboration with MAPHA officers at Barangay Tawan-Tawan, Baguio District, Davao City. The initiative served the local community by providing essential medical care while also allowing pharmacy students to apply their knowledge in a real-world setting. The medical mission aimed to provide free consultations and screenings, distribute essential medicines, and promote health awareness through education sessions. Beyond medical services, the program also sought to strengthen community relations and support the residents in their wellness journey. On January 25, 2025, the Malayan Psychology Association (MPA) successfully held its community engagement initiative, “Season 2025, Start!: Hope in Every Heart, Smiles in Every Gift,” at the Sorelle Missionarie dell'Amore di Cristo (SMAC) Orphanage in Barangay Calinan Poblacion, Calinan District, Davao City. The event was led by Bachelor of Science in Psychology officers under the guidance of their moderator with the aim of fostering community participation, building relationships, and promoting overall well-being. The initiative sought to strengthen bonds with the beneficiary community and demonstrate how collective efforts can make a meaningful difference. The project aimed to assess the survival and growth of planted native trees, conduct necessary maintenance such as weeding and pruning, and engage volunteers in hands- on conservation efforts. It also sought to raise awareness about the importance of long-term forest restoration and monitoring. During the activity, students actively participated in tree maintenance and monitoring tasks, ensuring the improved health and survival rate of seedlings and planted trees. The initiative also encouraged greater awareness and deeper involvement in forest conservation practices among the volunteers. Food Support Initiative Food Support InitiativeFor Stray AnimalsFor Stray AnimalsOn June 23, 2025, Bantay Hayop Davao successfully carried out a one- day community engagement initiative in Malagamot, Panacan, Davao City. The program aimed to provide food support for stray animals, helping to alleviate hunger and improve their well-being. The initiative began with a donation drive where community members contributed cat and dog food. Volunteers then distributed the collected meals to around 250 stray dogs and 10 stray cats across designated areas. Alongside the feeding activity, Bantay Hayop Davao also launched a social media campaign that raised awareness about the struggles of stray animals and encouraged continued compassion toward them. Organized by Tristan Jake G. Faderogao, the program aimed to enhance community development that aligned with the goal of making financial education accessible and relevant. The program was successful in implementing the goal of improving financial literacy within the cooperatives as one-on-one personalized approaches on difficult concepts enabled the participants to grasp a better understanding financially.
