CASIKLAN WHEELS FARMERS ASSOCIATION, INC. (CAWFAI)
Casiklan Wheels Farmers Association, Inc. (CAWFAI) is a registered people’s organization based in Barangay Casiklan, Las Nieves, Agusan del Norte, composed primarily of coffee farmers committed to sustainable agriculture and community development. Formed in 1997 through the support of the Department of Agriculture (DA), CAWFAI began as a small group of displaced families striving to rebuild their livelihoods through coffee farming. With an initial assistance of ₱20,000 and guided by the spirit of bayanihan, the organization gradually strengthened its foundation and operational capacity. A significant breakthrough occurred in 2016 when CAWFAI became a beneficiary of the National Greening Program (NGP) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). With a total investment of ₱21.87 million from 2016 to 2021, the organization successfully developed 945 hectares of timber, bamboo, agroforestry, and high-value crop plantations—integrating coffee as a key commodity. Through sound financial management, CAWFAI generated internal savings that enabled it to access further support under the DA–Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) and the High Value Crops Program in 2022. These investments provided essential infrastructure, farm machinery, and processing facilities, significantly improving productivity and operational efficiency. Complementary support from DTI, TESDA, and DOST further enhanced the organization’s capabilities in post-harvest processing, skills development, and technology adoption. Today, CAWFAI has approximately 150 active members out of 500 households in the barangay. The organization has successfully improved the quality of its coffee production, resulting in a substantial increase in farmgate prices—from ₱50/kg to ₱250–₱270/kg—thereby significantly increasing farmers’ income. Today, CAWFAI produces high-quality coffee beans that command premium prices—uplifting livelihoods and transforming lives. More than an organization, CAWFAI is a symbol of hope—proving that when communities work together, growth is not only possible, but sustainable.
