Page | 6 Human Resources Pre-Arrival Guide Let’s Align with the Local Culture Dress Code Dress appropriately and according to the local culture at all times. ➢ Men should wear trousers or shorts and a shirt. ➢ Women should wear attire that covers shoulders, upper arms, and knees. ➢ Women may wear bikinis and swimsuits at hotel beaches, swimming pools, and private beaches (not in public beach). Photography Be careful about taking photographs in public places and at work. Ask permission before photographing people, especially people wearing traditional clothing. Do not photograph government buildings, embassies, military, airports, industrial sites, and shopping malls. Public Display of Affection Any intimacy in public places between men and women (including teenagers) will lead to legal implications. Courtesy Take care while shaking hands with men. Wait for a woman to extend her hand first. If she pulls back her hand and holds it against her chest, this is a sign of greeting in preference over hand shaking. If you are a woman meeting a Bahraini man, wait and see if he extends his hands; As Bahraini men often do not think it is appropriate to shake hands with a woman.
