IKAW vs. KANow let's learn two new words: Ikaw and Ka. Both mean YOU, but they are used differently.IKAW Usually used at the beginning of a sentence or when emphasizing "you."
IKAW vs. KAExamples Ikaw ba si Michael? (Are you Michael?)Ikaw ang kaibigan ko. (You are my friend.)Ikaw ba ay turista? (Are you a tourist?)(In everyday speech, Filipinos often say "Turista ka ba?" instead.)
KAYO Now let's learn kayo. It has two uses. 1. You (more than one person) Example: Kumusta kayo?/Kamusta kayo? (How are you all?) 2. Polite "you" Filipinos also use kayo when speaking respectfully to one older person. Example: Kumusta po kayo? (How are you?) This is similar to the German distinction between du (informal) and Sie (formal). While it's not exactly the same, kayo helps show respect when speaking to elders or people you don't know well.
