A Grade 1 English student workbook for the second part of the school year, covering literacy skills through play, speaking, sounds, reading and writing.
This is a Grade 1 English student workbook for the second part of the school year, prepared by Dr. Abera Legesse for Bridge School. It is designed for young learners who have completed Part 1 and are ready to build on early literacy skills through alphabet review, phonics, sight words, simple grammar, reading and writing.
The workbook opens with a table of contents listing 35 units. The first units cover greetings, classroom instructions, describing oneself and friends, and talking about family. Each unit follows a consistent structure with new vocabulary, listening and speaking activities, tracing, matching and drawing tasks.
Units 5 through 11 review colors, shapes, numbers 1 to 10, and the alphabet from A to Z in five-letter groups. Learners practice naming colors and shapes, counting objects, tracing letters, and matching uppercase and lowercase forms. Each letter unit includes a key word example such as A for apple.
Later units introduce phonics concepts: beginning sounds, rhyming words, short vowels A, E, I, O and U, word families, and blends and digraphs. Two sight word units follow, then grammar topics including naming words, singular and plural, pronouns, action words, describing words and prepositions.
The final units focus on sentence building, questions and answers, reading a short story, writing about a picture, describing a daily routine, a reading and writing review, and an end of year assessment. The workbook also includes a family and teacher support section.
Each unit ends with a self-check section where learners mark whether they listened carefully, practiced speaking English and tried the activity. The workbook uses a full year curriculum approach with the motto Love, Educate, Empower, Transform.
