“Indigo Spoken,” Poetry & Song is a lyrical reading of original poems from “Indigo,” “Blush,” and “Onyx,” poetry books by author Cyrene Renee. It also features the key songs that inspired the eclectic sections of the books. Allowing for intimate insight, by blending music and literature on one stage. The purpose of the show is to allow the audience a behind the scenes peak of the thought process while Cyrene created her poetry books. She states in her introduction in “Indigo” that she does not write solely for herself, but also for the reader. Whether the listener is an avid reader or new to Cyrene’s work, they will have the opportunity to be introduced to a more personal perspective of her creativity. This show features only Black women artists/vocalists to include a classic from Ms. Nina Simone and currently Jill Scott and Erykah Badu. It pays homage to the women who have come before her and who stand with her in the modern age of art and creativity. The show has the flexibility to be as short as 30 minutes or up to an hour and a half if needed. With the various unique arrangements composed by Cyrene herself from timeless songs, she has managed to create something all her own, relative to her heart and understanding. “Indigo Spoken” is different. It is eclectic and honest. Throughout the performance, Cyrene shares her moments of clarity and in some cases, resistance to her openness and vulnerability. It is more than a show. It is an accelerated pause in time to be shared. And with that, the courage of embracing the now, manifests with every song sung and every word spoken.
The mood is quiet but intentional, shaped by restraint rather than excess, and guided by a clear understanding of proportion and balance. Every detail is reduced to its purest form, allowing silhouette and posture to lead the narrative instead of ornament or distraction. There is no urgency in the composition, only a deliberate sense of placement where fabric, light, and structure interact with calm precision. Soft tailoring replaces decoration, and texture becomes the only statement required to communicate depth and character. The lines remain clean, uninterrupted, and confident, creating a visual language that feels modern without trying to prove it. Light moves gently across the surface, revealing subtle contrasts and quiet dimensions that reward a closer look. Nothing competes for attention, yet everything holds it with subtle authority, as if the image understands its own strength. The energy remains controlled, almost private, suggesting that true presence does not need to announce itself loudly. Confidence appears without spectacle and lingers without effort, grounded in clarity rather than performance. The styling feels intentional but never forced, curated yet breathable, refined yet human. Each element supports the whole, reinforcing a narrative built on discipline and ease rather than trend or noise. There is an elegance in the restraint, a sense that editing is as important as creation. Space is treated as a design element, not an absence, allowing the composition to breathe and settle naturally. Movement, when it appears, is minimal and measured, emphasizing form over flourish. Texture replaces color as the focal point, inviting attention to nuance instead of contrast. The palette remains subdued, reinforcing the idea that sophistication often lives in understatement. This is fashion that does not chase validation but defines its own rhythm and remains steady within it. It values longevity over immediacy and substance over spectacle. In this framework, simplicity becomes layered rather than plain, structured rather than empty. The result is a presence that feels both contemporary and timeless, anchored in intention and carried by quiet strength.
