As we move through the final weeks of summer and look ahead to fall, this is a good opportunity to reflect on where we’ve been, what has been accomplished, and what we are working toward as we continue improving the golf course. A Challenging Start to the Season The spring and early summer brought exceptionally dry conditions. To put that into perspective, a single rain and flood event in May 2025 produced more rainfall than we received during March, April, and May combined this year. August, however, brought some much-needed relief, with more rainfall than we had received throughout the earlier part of the year. There is simply no substitute for natural rainfall when it comes to turf growth and recovery, and we are already seeing the benefits across the course. With milder temperatures arriving, recovery and regrowth are now our primary focus as we finish the summer and head into fall. A New Foundation for the Golf Course Our new irrigation system has now been fully operational for nearly two months and represents one of the most significant improvements and investments that can be made in a golf course. Beyond simply providing water, the new system allows our agronomy team to be far more precise and efficient in a number of important practices. We now have greater control when watering in root-targeted fungicides, wetting agents, insecticides, and topdressings — areas where the capabilities of our previous system were extremely limited. A fully functional and reliable irrigation system also allows us to be more aggressive with necessary cultural practices because we can properly manage the stress those practices place on the turf. Simply put, we now have a level of control over the golf course that we did not have before. The in-season installation was not without its challenges. Water availability was limited throughout the project, and some areas of the course went without irrigation for months. Combined with the unusually dry conditions during the first half of the year, those areas began to show significant stress during June and July.

Our team has been working diligently on verticutting, aerating, seeding, and fertilizing to accelerate the recovery process. These practices will continue throughout the remainder of summer and into fall to put the course in the best possible condition heading into winter. Our current areas of focus include Hole 7, Hole 12, the 15th tee, 13th tee, and 17th fairway. These areas have been seeded and will soon be fertilized as we continue working to establish healthy, consistent turf. Upcoming Aerification There are also important agronomic dates approaching. Aerification is scheduled to begin on Monday, September 21 and will continue through Tuesday and Wednesday, September 22 and 23. The golf course will be closed to member play beginning Monday afternoon as our agronomy team begins the cultivation process. Aerification is vital to the long-term health of the golf course. It helps relieve soil compaction, reduce thatch buildup, and improve the movement of air, water, and nutrients into the root zone. With our current conditions and the capabilities of the new irrigation system, we anticipate a healthy and efficient recovery process. As with any cultivation process, playing conditions will be temporarily affected following aerification. Recovery is influenced by several factors, particularly weather and growing conditions, but our team will be actively managing the course throughout this period to encourage recovery and return surfaces to quality playing conditions as efficiently as possible. With several weeks of favorable fall golf weather typically still ahead, we are optimistic about the condition and playability of the course as we move through the remainder of the season. We also want to acknowledge the impact these projects have had on play this season. Our members have shown tremendous patience as the irrigation installation took priority and created interruptions throughout the course. As we move into aerification, we will ask for your patience once again for a short period of time. While aerification temporarily affects playing conditions, the work is an important investment in the long-term health, consistency, and resiliency of the turf. The short-term disruption will help us provide better playing conditions in the seasons ahead.
Looking Ahead Beyond this fall, our focus is on continuing to build upon the improvements made this year and developing a golf course that becomes healthier, more resilient, and more consistent year after year. The new irrigation system gives us a foundation we simply did not have before. It allows us to manage water more precisely, respond more effectively to changing weather conditions, and approach our agronomic practices proactively rather than reactively. Combined with continued equipment improvements, sound cultural practices, and our focus on rebuilding the areas stressed during this season, we are confident in the direction of the golf course and excited about what these investments will mean for Carlisle Country Club in the years ahead. From our entire team, we sincerely thank you for your patience and understanding throughout this season. We know there have been challenges along the way, and we appreciate the support our members have shown as we have worked through them. We are confident in the continued recovery of the course and look forward to providing excellent playing conditions for fall golf and beyond. We would also like to extend a special thank you to our ownership group for its commitment to investing in the new irrigation system and equipment. These investments provide our agronomy team with the tools necessary to help an already beautiful golf course flourish, particularly through the heat waves and challenging weather conditions that come with summers in Central PA. The benefits of these investments extend far beyond this season. We believe they will become increasingly evident in the quality, consistency, and resiliency of the golf course for years to come.
