11“NEST” A LEARNING CENTER FOR ADULTS ON THE SPECTRUM This adaptive reuse project transforms a historic pavilion in Testaccio, Rome, into The Nest, a social and educational center for young adults on the autism spectrum. This project celebrates growth, community, and the optimism of new beginnings. Inspired by Italy’s national bird, the Italian Sparrow, the design fosters comfort and independence through sensory-conscious spaces, abundant natural light, and a calming palette of warm neutrals and organic greens. A limonaia garden provides fresh lemons for the on-site juice bar, where users develop hospitality skills by preparing drinks, maintaining the kitchen, taking customer orders, and operating the register. The design includes vibrant yellow accents woven throughout the interiors to imitate the scattered lemons on the property, which creates a seamless connection between the indoor and outdoor environments. 01

concept collage Social workspaces foster collaboration and engagement by offering a supportive, low-pressure environment where users can practice communication, peer interaction, and teamwork. Clear wayfinding strategies reduce sensory overload and anxiety by helping users independently predict, navigate, and transition through the environment with ease. Dedicated spaces to develop life skills provide a practical and structured environment for the users to build independence, confidence, and practice essential daily skills at their own pace. 02

22“VIBRANCE” TEENS MENTAL HEALTH CENTER Gently curving paths serve as both wayfinding elements and aesthetic features. These flowing patterns mimic natural rhythms, subtly guiding movement with a sense of calm and connection. Inspired by the auditory phenomenon of an echo, the design reflects the way sound carries, softens, and returns. This concept is expressed through gentle curves, rhythmic forms, and a harmonious integration of nature with innovative materials. The result is a calming, restorative environment where teens can engage in both group and individual therapy, supporting their emotional growth and overall mental well-being. Ceiling elements mimic the rhythmic flow of sound waves undulating across the space. Their layered, rippling forms create a sense of movement. Metal mesh is valued for both its innovative applications and aesthetic qualities. It can function as a fabric within healthcare settings and, when produced with a larger grain, as an architectural element.09

He constantly tracks his food intake, avoids eating in front of others, and feels guilty when he doesn’t meet his strict exercise goals. His friends and family have noticed that he has lost weight and seems withdrawn, but he brushes off their concerns. Age: 16 Struggles: Todd has been dealing with depression and social anxiety which worsened after his parents divorce last year. He has trouble concentrating in school, his grades have dropped, and he no longer spends time with his friends. Age: 15 Struggles: Macey has been experiencing high levels of anxiety and emotional exhaustion. Her home environment is chaotic-her parents argue often, and she feels responsible for taking care of her younger siblings. 44“HAVEN” BESPOKE TABLE LUMINAIRE “Haven” is a sculptural luminaire inspired by the organic form and layered structure of a conch shell. The design features a substantial, protective outer shell that opens to reveal a more delicate inner shell housing the light source. When illuminated, the inner shell creates the impression of a life form nestled within a safe, enclosed sanctuary—inviting a sense of warmth and intimacy. This layered construction is intended to spark curiosity and encourage physical interaction with the piece. The outer shell is designed to rotate on its base, allowing users to adjust the lighting from a focused task light to a soft, ambient glow using an E26 base bulb with 760 lumens. 25

55“NAUTILUS” BESPOKE WALL SCONCE “Nautilus” is a wall-mounted sconce inspired by the structural elegance of a flat scallop shell. The design features both an interior and exterior shell, intended to depict the relationship between a living organism and its protective casing. The inner shell incorporates gently curved perforations, allowing light to project patterns onto the surrounding wall surface. These patterns are designed to resemble the way sunlight refracts through water, creating a soft and immersive visual experience. The fixture is illuminated by a G4 LED bulb with 900 lumens, providing a warm and efficient glow, enhancing the ethereal quality of the design. 27
