CICA Compendium 2026: Nature-based Solutions for Climate…

This compendium documents youth-led climate action initiatives under the CICA programme, featuring 14 case studies on Nature-based Solutions (NbS) in Bangladesh and beyond.

The CICA Compendium 2026 is a publication edited by Sadia Saima, Farah Islam Aesha, Mahia Farsum Islam, and Samia Jahan. It is published by Community Development for Peace (CDP) in Bangladesh. The document is intended for young people, academics, experts, and institutions involved in climate action and regional cooperation.

The compendium begins with a preface explaining its purpose: to showcase activities and knowledge-sharing under the initiative 'Empowering Youth of CICA Member States for Climate Action through Nature-Based Solutions (NbS)'. It describes the collaboration between CDP and BRAC University, supported by the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).

The document includes an overview of CDP, a non-governmental organization in Bangladesh focused on peacebuilding, youth development, disaster preparedness, and environmental sustainability. It also provides background on CICA, a multinational forum promoting peace and cooperation across Asia.

The main content consists of 14 case studies. Topics include evaluating Hatirjheel, Gulshan Lake, and Ramna Park in Dhaka as NbS for urban resilience; assessing Recharge Pakistan for flood risk reduction; and studying Sundarbans, Bhawal National Park, and Nikli Haor as NbS. Other studies cover Miyawaki Forest in Diabari, industrial wasteland reclamation in Chattogram, floating treatment wetlands in Dhanmondi Lake, the Norai River, the National Botanical Garden of Bangladesh, vetiver grass…

Each case study is presented as a separate chapter with authors and page numbers. The compendium aims to serve as a reference for future youth-led climate initiatives and to encourage regional cooperation and knowledge exchange.

The document concludes with a preface by Muhammad Ferdaus, Managing Director of CDP, and includes a table of contents listing all chapters and contributors.
