READ THE SELECTION FROM THE FOUNDER’S AUTOBIOGRAPHY, ‘The Story of My Life, AND ANSWER THE QUESTIONS BELOW. Perhaps it is obvious that in the Campos family, especially starting with our father and mother, Jose and Luisa Campos, the area of interest and involvement in the community for almost over the century is in the field of education. Their efforts in reaching out to the population where they were residing started from the humble effort of sharing instructional facilities in the school to actual involvement in the construction of laboratories, amphitheaters, and venues for seminars and conferences. My father and mother were both public school teachers. But after they succeeded in raising and educating their children, they both got involved in putting up a private
school in their hometown a school that has continuously served the community for the past fifty- four years. Their children, all seven, turned out to be bright boys. They had their studies initially in the public school system in town, and later expanded to its various campuses and colleges. They excelled as teachers, and by some fortune and mingling of events they decided to get involved in the community and carry on what looked like the mission of the family, that is, the education of their community. It was no wonder that the children after their tertiary education and were able to get some sizable funds ventured and invested first in a private hospital which was to lead to higher venture, the establishment of the school of Emilio Aguinaldo College. Other activities were all related to education, including the expansion of their educational efforts to other campuses, specially in Cavite. At this point in time the growth pattern of the corporation seemed to be: the expansion of its real estate, the establishment of health facilities in the community. In all our efforts, the most promising trait of the family is love of the community, our native land and our
people. This trait has evolved into an obsession, a dedication to service in providing education, in improving the health care of the people, and in enhancing their economic status by providing opportunities for employment. The family, although of a middle-class income, seemed not to be obsessed with wealth accumulation but more inclined to serve and share the bounties that came along way. Answer the following questions: 1. Based on the selection, how can you describe the value Dr. Campos and his family put on education? 2. Reflect on the Campos Family Mission: Education of the Community. How important and crucial is education of the community where you belong? How will it change the community? Educarion is extremely important and vital for any society,your society.including the one you belong to.it equips people with imformation,techniques and thinking capacities which are essential for individual and community enhancement. 2. According to Dr. Campos, “the most promising trait of the family is love of the community, our native land and our people.” Give instances in our history where the love of community, country, and people changed our beloved nation. Dr Campos love his community,country and fellow citizens has always been an important part of what makes this nation what it is.there have been times when this love has really changed things.like the Philippine Revolution and the Katipunan 1896-1898.
