Program OverviewWelcome to the Head Start Work Experience Programme! This workbook is here to help guide you through the programme and the different activities you’ll be doing along the way. You’ll spend time learning new skills, working with others, getting outdoors, and helping look after our local environment. Some days will be hands-on, some days will be about planning for your future, and some days will just be about giving things a go.Over the course of this programme, we will spend time exploring the coastal environments of Tauranga Moana while taking part in practical, hands-on conservation activities. Together we will carry out beach clean ups, work within sand dune ecosystems, learn about native plant species, and gain a better understanding of the unique environments that help protect our coastline. Through these experiences, you will build practical skills, confidence, environmental awareness, and a stronger connection to the natural environment. What You'll Learn Our mission is to create opportunities for people to build confidence, skills, and connection through hands-on environmental work. By caring for our coastlines, sand dunes, and native ecosystems, we support pathways into employment, learning, and positive community participation while helping protect the natural environments of Tauranga Moana.Outflow’s Mission Take your time. Ask questions. Give things a go. Through hands-on conservation work, you'll gain valuable skills including native plant identification and propagation, weed control techniques, tool handling and maintenance, teamwork and communication, problem-solving in outdoor environments, time management and work ethic and environmental awareness. These transferable skills will boost your confidence and open doors to future employment opportunities.Skills You'll Develop

This term you will help care for coastal and dune environments. You will complete clean-ups, remove weeds, plant native plants and experience conservation tools. Wednesday Schedule Times may vary to suit work task and location.Program Structure Term 3

A clear plan and safety talk at the start of every day. Practical work in a team, with demonstrations and support. A five-minute warning before changing activities or going to lunch. A short reflection and Worker of the Day recognition at the end. Another useful task if a loud tool or activity is not comfortable or suitable for you. What you can expect Your safety is our top priority. Always wear appropriate protective equipment including sturdy boots, gloves, and high-visibility clothing. Follow supervisor instructions at all times and never operate tools or equipment without proper training. Report any hazards immediately. Stay hydrated, take regular breaks, and work within your physical limits.Safety Guidelines What to bring
