A principle feature in its construction is for the use of First time in India Messrs. Homan and Rodgers patent flat brick and iron joist floors. Considering that this is the First attempt of its kind (in India) for using iron joists in floor building technology to make it fire-proof. The total cost of this project was Rs.24000 INR. which was carried out under Mr. Pogson’s superintendence. Homan and Rodgers fire proof flooring technology was stated as “improvised in construction of fire proof floors”. Their invention consisted in building floors with Transverse Girders on the flanges of which rested bricks with their under sides projecting below the said flanges. The construction of bricks having notches at each end in both upper and under faces with sloping sides which are made alike so that when their ends are placed upon the side flanges of the I – iron supports , their lower portion may project below these side flanges to form Dove- tailed key ends. Joist floors – For this type of flooring concrete is laid in solid between , under and over the iron joists. Beyond the supervision of fixing of the centering and gauging the materials little skilled labour is required. The rough concrete (early concrete) is laid between and under the iron joists , which are fixed from 3 feet to 5 feet apart , according to the span and strength of the joists. The constituents of concrete (Lime Brick jelly) used are : Lime,Gravel (Owing Big size),Limestone,Broken bricks,Cinder stones – waste material / burnt and cooled , produced from refining or smelting ores.It is not a repetitive structure and wholly for ornamentation. Adding to which the cornice increases to the flow of water through the pipe by increasing the surface area. The Column was inspired from Greek Corinthian order. The capital has acan- thus leafs on all the sides, volute and boss which are made up of Iron rather than traditional brick or concrete.SECTION B-B’SECTION A-A’SECTION D-D’SECTION C-C’SCALE 1 : 150SCALE 1 : 150SCALE 1 : 150SCALE 1 : 150IRON CAPITALORNAMENTED CORNICEHOMAN’S FIREPROOF FLOORPRINCIPLE FEATURE( GROUND LEVEL )( GROUND LEVEL)( GROUND LEVEL )( GROUND LEVEL )( PLINTH LEVEL )LVL +0.30m LVL +0.0m( PLINTH LEVEL )LVL +0.30m LVL +0.0m( DUCT TOP LEVEL )LVL +12.95m( TERRACE LEVEL )LVL +7.65m( TERRACE LEVEL )LVL +7.65m( PLINTH LEVEL ) LVL +0.30mLVL +0.0m( TERRACE LEVEL ) LVL +7.50m( PLINTH LEVEL )LVL +10.40m( DUCT TOP LEVEL )LVL +11.55m( FIRST FLOOR LEVEL )LVL +3.90m( FIRST FLOOR LEVEL )LVL +3.90m( PLINTH LEVEL )LVL +0.30mLVL +0.0m( TERRACE LEVEL )LVL +7.80m( FIRST FLOOR LEVELLVL +3.90m( FIRST FLOOR LEVEL ) LVL +3.90m6.153.603.452.102.110.242.571.133.753.451.302.302.301.000.302.350.403.450.300.640.100.141.40.190.20
