Today, I celebrate the life of my Soulja Queen—a woman whose love knew no limits and whose determination could never be questioned. Through God’s guidance, he taught me specifically how to understand you like no other person could. I'm forever grateful for the crash course in loving you unconditionally. My Moma loved deeply and fiercely. If she loved you, you knew it. She gave her heart freely, protected her family with everything she had, and always wanted the very best for those she cared about. Now, anyone who knew her also knew she could be incredibly stubborn. Once her mind was made up, changing it was impossible, but that stubbornness was also part of what made her so strong. It carried her through life's hardest moments, helped her through life challenges, and taught all of us what perseverance really looks like. She wasn't perfect, but she was perfectly herself. She made us laugh, she kept us on our toes, and she loved us with every ounce of her being. Those are the memories I'll treasure forever. Moma, thank you for your unwavering love, your strength and yes—even your stubbornness. Those qualities helped shape the person I am today. You will forever be a powerhouse in my heart. Rosalind Denise Hicks was born on April 7, 1966, in Dallas, Texas, to the late Leroy Hicks Sr. and Betty Jean Daniels. As the baby of seven children, Rosalind proudly embraced her role as the youngest, a title she never truly outgrew. She always knew how to make her presence known—with a warm smile, a big personality, and just enough sass to keep everyone on their toes. She received her education through the Dallas Independent School District and later dedicated many years working in the service industry before her health led her into medical retirement. Though her career came to an end, her life's greatest work never did—loving people. Rosalind's heart belonged to her family. She found immeasurable joy in pouring into her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless others who affectionately knew her as "GG" or "Aunt Rosalind." She never met a child she couldn't love, encourage, or spoil just a little. Her home, her heart, and often her kitchen were always open to those she loved. She had a personality as vibrant as the colorful outfits she wore so effortlessly. Whether she was cheering on the Dallas Cowboys or the Dallas Mavericks, dancing around the room to her favorite songs, or cooking a meal seasoned with plenty of love, Rosalind knew how to make ordinary moments feel special. If music was playing, there was a good chance she'd be moving to the beat—and if you happened to be nearby, she'd probably try to get you dancing too. Rosalind loved fiercely and gave generously—sometimes more than she had to give—but that was simply who she was. Her compassion, kindness, and unwavering love for others were among her greatest gifts. She lived life boldly, laughed often, and never apologized for being authentically herself. Her legacy is not measured only by the years she lived, but by the countless lives she touched with her generosity, humor, and unconditional love. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Leroy Hicks Sr. and Betty Jean Daniels; her siblings, Patsy Daniels, Leroy Hicks Jr., and Cassandra Butler. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted sons, Allen L. Hicks (Tamela Hicks) and Johnathan H. Hicks; her treasured grandchildren, D'Kayla Geter Wright, Jailon Hicks, and Jeremiah Hicks; her loving siblings, Jessie Hicks, Adrian Hicks, and Wanda Henry; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends, and everyone blessed to know the woman whose love knew no limits. We were so much alike, two Aries with big personalities, strong opinions, and hearts that loved just as hard as we fought. We had our ups and downs, but one thing never changed: you were my mother, my queen, and my world.
