The document covers the programme's duration from 2023 to 2027 and its geographic coverage across Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda. Implementing partners include the International Trade Centre, the East African Community and EAC Partner States ministries.
Value chains addressed are avocado, cocoa, coffee, essential oils, French beans, gum arabic, leather, packaging, spices and tea. In Uganda, the programme focuses on avocado, cocoa, coffee and packaging.
Interventions include training in coffee processing and value addition, access to finance, export and compliance skills, branding and marketing, and sustainability and traceability. The programme works with the Ugandan Coffee Development Authority.
Reported results for Ugandan coffee businesses include USD 4.70 million in total sales, USD 1.13 million to European markets, USD 1.69 million to other African markets, and 690 jobs sustained or created. Six businesses were supported through the SheTrades initiative.
