OMEGA PSI PHI FRATERNITY, INC. MU NU CHAPTER MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MARYLAND 2025 ANNUAL ACHIEVEMENT WEEK OBSERVANCE “Impactful Service Through Intentional Friendship” FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 2025 @ 7:00 pm
ACHIEVEMENT WEEK IN RETROSPECT The concept of an Annual Achievement Week Celebration was accepted at the Ninth Grand Conclave in 1920, which met in Nashville, Tennessee. It was first called “Negro History and Literature Week” in honor of Dr. Carter G. Woodson, an honorary member of the Fraternity, whose address at the Nashville Conclave stimulated the concept of recognizing the achievements of the American Negro. The celebration was abolished by the Conclave in Washington in 1924; thus, there was no celebration in 1925. However, in December 1925, at the Tuskegee Conclave, the observance was re-designated the “National Negro Achievement Week Project.” The purpose of the annual project was to present the important achievements of the Negro people, which might escape public notice and thus not be properly recorded in the pages of history. At the Sixteenth Grand Conclave in 1927, the Fraternity assumed direct supervision of the annual observance. It appointed Linwood G. Kroger as the first national director of “National Negro Achievement Week” because of his high level of success in conducting celebrations in Baltimore for Pi Chapter and Pi Omega Chapter. Through Brother Kroger’s leadership, an eleven-point general plan was established at the national level for utilization in the Annual Achievement Week celebrations through the Fraternity. The salient points projected by the “Kroger Plan” are still used as guidelines for our present observance of Achievement Week, which was officially named the “National Achievement Week Project” in 1948. From inception to the present day, the project has been a productive effort of Omega to recognize achievements in accordance with the four Cardinal Principles - Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance and Uplift. OBJECTIVES OF OBSERVANCE • To focus attention on outstanding achievements, not only by giving appropriate recognition to those who have achieved, but by stimulating others to gain even higher eminence. • To implement our democratic way of life by emphasizing that all people must be judged by their accomplishments and their service to mankind, regardless of nationality, religion or race. • To raise the prestige of Omega by providing a worthwhile project to which our chapter may direct its energies; this united effort should stimulate and enrich the communities where Omega Chapters are located.

Special Thanks, We, the Brothers of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to each parent, teacher, counselor, and principal for all the hard work you do with the students throughout the Montgomery County Public School System. We understand that there are many challenges you face, yet each and every time, you rise to meet them—giving 110% of yourself to the education and character building of our young men and women. Selflessly, you dedicate your time and energy to provide a service that few are willing to take on, due to the countless hours and unwavering commitment it requires to prepare lessons, run programs, and serve in multiple roles—often without extra compensation. Educators are the tip of the spear and the lifeline of our next generation of doctors, lawyers, mechanics, professors, and professionals across every field. So, to all the educators: please take a moment to remember that your work is invaluable—your efforts today shape the leaders of tomorrow! My warmest regards, Shawn Wilkinson 2025 Achievement Week Chair Special Thanks, Thank you to all of our officials in Montgomery County Government and the Montgomery County Public School (MCPS) system. Without your continued resolution to ensure that our young men and women receive the best education throughout the State of Maryland is essential to the growth of all of our communities within the county. When our children are able to strive for higher heights, there is no ceiling that cannot be shattered and it starts with education.
