Crafting a rarong; a traditional carrier used to transport harvested produce begins with carefully harvesting and preparing natural materials such as rattan (yantok) and pandan.TTBecause gathering these materials requires strength and skill, it is traditionally done by men. Each rarong is uniquely woven to match its owner's height and body size, ensuring comfort and practicality. Straps made from the bark of the sayapo tree are attached, while a sackcloth lining is added to protect the contents. This craft demonstrates the Tagbanua's resourcefulness, respect for nature, and the preservation of ancestral traditions through everyday life.

After that the inner layer was altered with a heavy object until the sheet came loose to hang from the tree. This layer was then placed in the sun to dry, after which it could be used. The men wore only a loin cloth, often in combination with a waistband made of rattan. Women’s skirts were made of bark and wrapped around their bodies.SS
During rituals and social gatherings, Tagbanua can be seen playing different musical instruments such as their Jew harp aruding, nose flute babarak, mouth flute tipanu, bamboo tube zithers pagang and tibuldu, boat lute kudlung, drum gimbal, and gongs obtained from the shallow babandil. Today, they also play acoustic guitar and ukulele. RELIGIOUS BELIEFSThe Tagbanua believe in a supreme god called Mangindusa, who rewards good deeds and judges people after death. They also believe that spirits live in forests, rivers, mountains, and the sea. Because these places are considered sacred, they treat nature with great respect and perform rituals to ask for protection, guidance, and blessings. HISTORYOF COLONIZATION IN THE PHILIPPINESGROUP REFLECTIONhile working on our magazine, we explored more about the culture of the Tagbanua Tribe of Palawan by doing research.Our research led us to a deeper understanding of the Tagbanua people, such as their unique ways of life that are centered on nature, strong family bonds, and traditions that have been preserved for generations. Their beliefs, craftsmanship, and practices show the importance of preserving one’s culture and identity while also protecting the environment. We also learned that they have a deep respect for nature because they believe it provides everything they need to survive. Additionally, our research helped us realize the importance of indigenous communities in preserving the country’s history and cultural diversity. It made us appreciate the fact that the Philippines is home to many different cultures, each with its own traditions, values, and beliefs. As a group, we learned to understand and embrace the culture of others by appreciating their customs and recognizing their contributions to society. Working on this magazine also improved our teamwork, communication, and research skills as we shared ideas and worked together to complete the project. Overall, this experience inspired us to value and recognize the many unique cultures the Philippines has, especially the culture of the Tagbanua Tribe, and encouraged us to help preserve and respect our country’s rich cultural heritage.WW
