01Project Objective: To revitalize the streets and areas surrounding Al-Balqa Applied University in a manner that aligns with the university’s environment and student needs, while maintaining harmony with the requirements of local residents. Additionally, the project aims to implement several development initiatives for the area, which will foster economic growth and regional development.Urban DesignThe Area Surrounding Al-BalqaUniversity – As-Salt City
01-VArchitectural Style: A contemporary interpretation of traditional Jordanian, Palestinian, and Levantine architectural heritage. The design prominently features authentic natural stone masonry, elegantly proportioned wide yet minimalist arches, and slender vertical window openings that optimize natural light. At its heart lies a traditional interior courtyard (Hosh), seamlessly blending cultural identity, historical warmth, and modern functionality.VILLA ARHEILLocation: Ain Al-BashaArea: 500 m²

01Proposal for Relocating Public Transport Hubs to Optimize Urban Traffic Flow Objectives: Improving safety and mobility for students and pedestrians. Decongesting the university’s main entrances for smoother traffic flow. Centralizing transit operations within the southern commercial district to enhance local accessibility. Strategies:Full Traffic Flow Redirection:Completely rerouting private and public vehicular traffic from the main artery to the secondary street to transform the main road into a pedestrian-friendly zone and alleviate structural congestion.Establishing a Central Transit Hub: Designing an integrated hub for "Coaster" buses on the side street, serving as a major anchor point to ensure a steady flow of passengers and visitors throughout the day.Vertical Pedestrian Connectivity: Utilizing the topographical level difference by designing pedestrian linkages (urban stairs or ramps) that connect the university gate directly to the transit hub, streamlining student movement through the new commercial facades.BRT Integration Strategy: Allocating a smart BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) station within the new route to enhance the side street's connectivity to the national transit network, establishing it as a primary destination rather than just a transit road.Mobility-Driven Economic Revitalization: Leveraging "Pick- up and Drop-off" dynamics to drive foot traffic into the secondary commercial street, incentivizing developers and investors to open new retail and service outlets due to increased consumer density. Reduce vehicle dominance on main streets around the university Objectives: Improve Pedestrian Safety Reduce vehicle dominance Strategies:Redirect vehicles to appropriate streets Guide traffic away from pedestrian-priority areas by reorganizing street directions and hierarchy, ensuring that higher- volume vehicles use designated arterial routes while local streets remain low-traffic and pedestrian-friendly.Limit traffic on pedestrian streets Reduce vehicle presence by restricting access, narrowing lanes, and prioritizing pedestrian space to create safer, walkable environments. Long-term Impact:Traffic & Safety: Eliminating main-road congestion and ensuring a 100% safe, pedestrian-friendly campus environment.Productive Transit Hub: Shifting the hub into a self-sustaining asset, generating continuous revenue through commercial rentals.Economic Revitalization: Boosting local trade and national revenue by transforming the side street into a high-value commercial hub. Long-term Impact:Improved Pedestrian Life & Urban Experience Streets become walkable, comfortable, and safeReduced Traffic Pressure on Sensitive Areas Main street no longer functions as a collectorSafer Streets (Fewer Accidents) Slower vehicle speeds Reviving Life in Urban Spaces Objectives: Long-term Impact:Create a pedestrian-friendly, green, and socially interactive landscapeEnhance greenery and environmental quality Improve pedestrian movement and accessibility Upgrade stairs and level transitions Encourage social interaction through landscape designGreening StrategyIntroduce shade trees along pedestrian pathways Use native and low-maintenance planting Create small green pockets within the urban space Distribute greenery to enhance visual comfort along pathwaysWiden pedestrian sidewalks Introduce ramps to ensure smooth and accessible movement Separate pedestrian circulation from vehicular traffic Use clear and comfortable paving materials for walking Pedestrian Circulation Strategy Stairs & Levels Strategy Social Interaction StrategyRedesign stairs to ensure user comfort and ease of movement Integrate seating steps within stair design Introduce ramps alongside stairs for accessibility Enhance safety through the addition of handrails and proper lightingDesign seating arrangements facing each other to encourage interaction Distribute seating nodes at key gathering points Add shading elements to enhance comfort Create flexible spaces for study and social gathering Objectives: Replace unsuitable activities with user- specific ones Introduce at least 2–3 activities per user group Ensure clear zoning (active / semi / passive) Increase time spent in the space Strategies:Provide safe and controlled activity spaces Integrate visual supervision (safety) Separate from heavy traffic zonesCreate a central activity node (plaza) Prioritize pedestrian movement over vehicles Activate edges with commercial and social uses Encourage social interaction through seating clusters Gateway Plaza Strategy Active Edge CorridorTransform street into a pedestrian-friendly corridor Activate street edges with mixed-use functions Enhance walkability and accessibility Introduce visual and physical continuity with campusEstablish a clear and continuous pedestrian spine Integrate movement + pause experience Distribute activity nodes along the path Provide shaded and comfortable micro-spaces Movement–Pause Spine Learning Landscape StrategySupport student-oriented activitie

02The project embraces the concept of "The Interwoven Journey," drawing an architectural parallel between the physical path of a thread through the production line and the philosophical trajectory of the human experience. The fragmented and interlocking masses symbolize the stages of transformation from raw material to a finished creation, mirroring how human life is shaped by intersections and challenges; ultimately redefining the factory not just as an industrial space, but as a living metaphor for continuity, connectivity, and growth Location: Al-Balqa Governorate, As-Salt Industrial CityThe ConceptArea:15000m2
