Namaste. Jay Shri Krishna. "Success" takes on a deeper meaning in the world of seva. The recent Board exam results brought immense joy to our Chhatralayas and schools. It is truly heartwarming to see our students pass their 5th, 8th, 10th, and 12th class exams—many ranking in the top five of their schools. Most of these children are first-generation learners, and this achievement holds great pride for their families and communities. Behind this success is the tireless dedication of our assistant coordinators, teachers, and caretakers—who become second parents to these children, deeply invested in their growth. Our Chhatralayas are much more than “free student hostels”—they are vibrant centres of learning, opportunity, and holistic development. Our schools focus on education that goes beyond textbooks, nurturing responsibility, values, and a strong sense of Bhartiya culture. As you turn the pages of this issue, you’ll see how every activity we initiate reflects these values—designed to engage children while grounding them in deeper life lessons. We measure our success not just in results, but in the lasting impact we create in each child’s life. With your continued support, we look forward to reaching many more children in the years to come. Moments with the Master In a Wimbledon final match, two players fight it out. Each one has got two games. It can anybody’s game. What they have sweated so far has no meaning. One person wins. The Tennis etiquette is, both the players have to come to the net and shake hands. The winner boxes the air and kisses the ground, throws his shirt as though somebody is waiting for it. He has to come to the net. When he comes to the net, you see his whole face changes. It looks as though he wishing that he did not win; why, because of empathy. That is the human heart. No human heart is denied of that empathy. No religion can demolish that by introduction. No culture, no nation and nationalism, nothing can touch it because it is empathy. And that capacity to empathise is the window through which you reach out to people; you do something that makes a difference in somebody’s life, even words, even time can make a difference. Compassion is not defined in one form. There is no indian compassion, There is no American compassion. It transcends nation, gender and age. Why, because it is there in everybody. It is experienced by people occasionally. Then this occasional compassion, will never remain occasional. By mandate, you cannot make a person compassionate. You cannot say, ‘Please love me.’ Love is something you discover. It is not an action, but in the English language, it is also an action. So, one has got to discover certain wholeness. I am going to cite the possibility of being whole, which is within our experience, everybody’s experience. In spite of a very tragic life, one is happy in moments which are very few and far between. The one, who is happy even for slapstick joke accepts oneself and also the scheme of things in which one finds oneself, that means the whole universe, known and unknown. All of them are totally accepted because you discover your wholness in yourself. The subject, me, and the onject, the scheme of things, fuse into oneness, an experience nobody can say, ‘I am denied of,’ an experience common to all and sundry. That experience confirms that in spite of all your limitations, unfulfilled wants, desires and the unpaid credit cards and layoffs and finally baldness, you can be happy. But the extension of the logic is that you do not need to fulfil your desire to be happy. You are the very happiness, the wholeness that you want to be. There is no choice in this and that only confirms the reality that the wholeness cannot be different from you, cannot be minus you. It has got to be you. Your moment of happiness reveals the recognition of the possibilty, ‘May be I am the whole. May be the Swami is right.’ The deepest lessons about life and living - conveyed with wit and humour by our belove Guru, Pujya Swami Dayananda Saraswati Compassion Excerpted from ‘Inner Growth: The Journey Within (Part 1)’ by Swami Dayananda Saraswati.
