It was the beginning of something new. Introduced by Ruther John “RJ” B. Garcia, Store Expansion Manager – Lease Management, CO-LAB EXCHANGE was unveiled as the new name for what had traditionally been known as the Store Expansion Coordination Meeting. “Store Expansion is not a one-team function. It is a collaborative exchange.” The first assembly created a shared platform to exchange plans, surface opportunities, share challenges, align priorities and connect the dots across business units—from site sourcing and acquisition to lease management, supermarkets, specialty retail, appliances, DIY, pharmacy and lifestyle concepts.

NOT EVERY GROWTH STORY IS A NEW STORE Growth can mean opening, relocating, renovating, downsizing, right-sizing, converting, co-locating—or making the right decision to exit. LEASE MANAGEMENT IS PART OF EXPANSION Renewals, concessions, contract management, lessor relationships and timely decisions are critical to keeping the network healthy. “A site for one business can become an opportunity for another.”
RRHI STORE EXPANSION | CO-LAB EXCHANGE NEWSLETER EDITORS NOTE BY RUTHER JOHN GARCIA – SMALL FORMATS From Coordination to Co-Laboration 05 / THE EXPANSION MINDSET The first CO-LAB EXCHANGE brought together people who may normally look at expansion from different angles: Sourcing. Leasing. Operations. Finance. Business Units. Developers. Lessors. Yet everyone works toward the same objective: PUT THE RIGHT BUSINESS IN THE RIGHT PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME. The Store Expansion Department’s 2026 agenda reflect a substantial pipeline across the RRHI network, including new stores, site acquisition, co-location, lease events and strategic network optimization. A SHARED VIEW OF GROWTH New Stores – Relocate – Renovate - Right-size- Co-locate For Small Formats, the 2026 direction included continued expansion, lease renewals, concessions, and stronger support systems, including proactive lease monitoring and alignment across regions. The Lease Intelligence Agent (LIA) pilot was also highlighted to support monitoring of upcoming lease expirations and timely renewals. The Exchange Continues 06/ THE FIRST CHAPTER January 16, 2026 was more than a date in the Store Expansion calendar. It marked the launch of a new way of coming together. “CO-LAB EXCHANGE is where ideas meet opportunities.” Where one team’s challenge can become another team’s solution. Where one business unit’s site can become another’s expansion opportunity. Where information becomes alignment—and where alignment becomes action. From RE and UJ to supermarkets, Shopwise and TMP, RDS and Toys “R” Us, DIY, Daiso, Appliances, Premium Bikes, Southstar Drug, Rose Pharmacy and the many concepts that make up the RRHI retail ecosystem, the exchange created a common space to see not only each team’s pipeline, but the possibilities around it. Every great store begins with a great collaboration. NEXT CO-LAB EXCHANGE ARCHITECTS DIY GROUP The first CO-LAB EXCHANGE opened the conversation by the Food Segment Small Formats – Robinsons Easymart and Uncle John’s. Now, the baton moves to the DIY Group. As the next CO-LAB EXCHANGE Architects, the DIY Group will shape the next session with its own perspective, stories, challenges, ideas and opportunities. From Handyman, True Value and Pet Lovers Centre, the next exchange is another opportunity to connect the dots and strengthen collaboration across the RRHI Store Expansion community. THE BATON HAS BEEN PASSED. DIY GROUP — LET’S CO-LAB. Connect. Exchange. Align. Expand. Behind the Scenes…
